We are excited to have our lab materials! My students were all smiles and questions, when the boxes arrived and I stated it was for them. I want to give my students visuals and real life experiences beyond the textbook. It is so important to see real world concepts. \r\n\r\nMy Biology students were able to simulate a cell membrane during our lab today. Tomorrow the lab will continue with osmotic solutions. My students will test an apple slice, potato slice, and a gummy bear to compare and contrast how the substances respond to water, saltwater, and sugar water. Cellular transport is an objective tested on our state assessment. Next we will cover mitosis and meiosis. We will use the prepared slides to observe how the events of both processes take place. My Earth Science students will be evaluating owl pellets to distinguish living and nonliving things. You couldn't sum up diversity better than our classroom at the Newcomers School. The students absolutely loved all the materials and the colors. It was so fascinating to see the students make themselves using the beautiful rainbow of colors. Seeing what they selected to represent how they looked or felt was absolutely fascinating. The detail that they showed (making mustaches, perfect little necklaces, detailed outfits and shoes) was shocking. The amount of time they spent on their projects were amazing. Having access to the Kwik Sticks all year and the rainbow of markers was such a gift. Our class was so blessed to have these resources to represent all of them. Seeing their faces was amazing-Im confident they had never seen such an array of colors. The text we paired with the activity was perfect.\r\n\r\nThe dolls from various countries were absolutely adorable. Seeing the children identify similarities between the dolls from different countries and their peers, even without speaking the same language was really moving.
