Our school has not offered art instruction for the time I have been there, and students have missed the opportunity to learn technique and find inspiration. Paired with our previous project on Donors Choose which focused on artists, we developed models of what we imagined our chicken coop to be in order to best care for them. \r\nPairing with these supplies on raising chickens and toys for the coop, I applied for a grant with the NC Farmer's Bureau to buy a coop and run. We will be placing it on the school grounds this fall. As we embark on new art projects each unit, students have been learning about artists and emulating their style. They learned a bird's eye view of light and dark and emotion in Gustave Dore's (cropped) art pieces. In upcoming units they'll learn about DaVinvi, Van Gogh, Frieda Kahlo, and more.
