My students and I are enjoying the new resources in the classroom. The blackout curtains specifically are impacting all of my classes and students are overjoyed with them. The curtains have helped reduce the heat coming into my classroom and instead of an 86 degree average temperature like we had each day prior to the curtains being installed, the classroom now averages no more than 74 degrees. Students are more comfortable, which has led them to being more focused and engaged, and the light-blocking characteristics of the curtains have helped my film class see the screen more clearly and without glare. \r\n\r\nMy students were overjoyed when they saw the materials arrive, and while they have loved the blackout curtains, I think they were most excited about the air purifiers that also emit heat. The room can get chilly in winter months, and the AC is chilly in the spring, so they like the heat that comes from them. I love the purifiers because they filter viruses, bacteria, pollen, and even mold spores from the air and put fresh, clean air back into the room. The students and I also really love the bingo chips and the magnetic wands: we play literary bingo when reading novels and short stories, which engages students and keeps them focuses as we read, and the magnetic wands make cleanup exponentially easier and faster between classes. \r\n\r\nWe have successfully used the lockdown materials during drills, preventing anyone from making entry into the classroom despite their best efforts. The chief school resource officer for the district complimented the lengths to which I have gone to ensure the safety of my students, and the door blockers from this project help me do just that, as does the door window curtain. \r\n\r\nOur next steps are to finish putting the book cases together and transferring my classroom library to them. Students are quite excited for the new book cases, and they are voting on what new book series they would like to add to our collection in the future. We are all extremely grateful for the materials and how they have enhanced the classroom and learning!","fullyFundedDate":1737998053940,"projectUrl":"project/showcased-and-safe-at-school/9063550/","projectTitle":"Showcased and Safe at School","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Merritt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3566140_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1504186964693","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3566140"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2482","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":227,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":82,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":51.2,"schoolId":2482,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Andrews High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Andrews High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/cherokee-county-school-district/andrews-high-school/2482"}
