From the moment it arrived, our students were excited to have a comfortable, welcoming place to gather, learn, and work together.\r\n\r\nAs a multilingual learner classroom, so much of our learning depends on interaction. Students need opportunities to talk with one another, practice new language, listen to stories, use visuals, play learning games, and participate in hands-on activities. Our rug has given us a dedicated space where we can come together for all of those things. Instead of spending all of our time seated at tables, students can gather comfortably on the floor for read-alouds, discussions, language activities, and collaborative learning.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite parts has been seeing how naturally students gravitate toward the rug. It has helped our shared classroom feel more like a space that belongs to them, not just a room they visit for a lesson.\r\n\r\nWe will continue using this space throughout the year as we build students' English language skills through conversation, stories, games, movement, and hands-on learning. We immediately put everything to work in a 3D storytelling project where students used the projector to trace animal outlines onto small canvases, molded Model Magic clay over the shapes for a pop-out texture, and added construction paper backgrounds. One unforgettable moment was watching a student who usually struggles with fine motor control glow with pride as the projector guided his hand, exclaiming, \"Look, I made a real lion!\" as he squished yellow clay onto his canvas.
