They will benefit from some of the more standard school supplies like Band-Aids and pens. The jigsaw puzzles offer a great opportunity for students to take brain breaks to recharge. I am especially excited about using the resources like the candy and toothpicks when we do economics simulations. These types of activities help reinforce the concepts we are learning about in our classroom. Finally, the economics books we received will be a great addition to our classroom library. Genetics is a difficult topic for students because they cannot see the actual genes. By doing a blood typing lab they get to see a visual as to how our genes work out with our blood. It also adds a factor of engagement since they are solving a mystery. Before starting blood typing labs my students always struggled understanding this topic. After doing the labs they almost all understand. Unfortunately, the kits require replenishment and are a bit pricey which is why I am so thankful for your donation. \r\n I am also grateful for the scales that were funded. Our school does not have many working scales. There is a lab that students do with gummy bears so they can see how water moves in and out of cells. This is a fantastic way for students do understand cell transport, but it requires working scales. Thanks to you my students were able to do this lab this semester.\r\n Your generosity provided materials for my students that has helped them be more engaged and also to learn the information at a deeper level.\r\n Thank you, \r\nBeth Urbina","fullyFundedDate":1724423537327,"projectUrl":"project/a-new-way-of-learning/8684745/","projectTitle":"A New Way of Learning.","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Urbina","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9466940"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_1590","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1791,"numTeachers":116,"percentFrplEligible":71,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":28,"percentWhite":29,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":30,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"15.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":59.4,"schoolId":1590,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about David Butler High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"David Butler High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/charlotte-mecklenburg-school-district/david-butler-high-school/1590"}
