The sensory room we envisioned together is now a vibrant, calming, and transformative space that is already making a remarkable difference in the lives of our neurodivergent students.\r\n\r\nWhen students enter the sensory room for the first time, their faces light up with curiosity and relief. The gentle glow of the bubble lamp fills the room with a soft, soothing light, creating an atmosphere of peace. The liquid tiles shimmer beneath their feet, encouraging exploration and joyful movement. The sensory swing quickly became a favorite spot—its rhythmic motion helping students find balance and calm after moments of overstimulation. Nearby, the crash pad provides a safe place for deep-pressure input, allowing students to release tension and feel grounded again.\r\n\r\nOther students are drawn to the cozy sensory tent, a quiet retreat where they can take a break when the world feels too loud. The weighted stuffed animals and breathing lamp are helping students learn how to regulate their emotions and practice mindfulness—skills that extend beyond this room and into the classroom, the playground, and even home. The tap lights have given students a sense of control over their environment; they love choosing the light color that feels just right for them. And for those with boundless energy, the trampoline offers a safe, joyful way to move their bodies and reset their focus. \r\n\r\nThis project has become so much more than a collection of sensory tools. It's a space built on empathy, understanding, and inclusion. It's a message to every child that they are seen, valued, and supported exactly as they are. The sensory room has quickly become a favorite place for students and teachers alike—a peaceful haven that reminds everyone that emotional regulation is just as important as academic growth.\r\n\r\nYour generosity didn't just fund materials—it created opportunities for joy, growth, and belonging. You've helped us build a place where students can thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of our entire classroom community, thank you for believing in our students and investing in their success. Your kindness has created a lasting impact that will continue to touch lives for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1760032871602,"projectUrl":"project/a-calming-sensory-room-for-our-amazing-n/9789498/","projectTitle":"A Calming Sensory Room for Our Amazing Neurodivergent Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dorado-Zimo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5488628_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1662213887441","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5488628"},{"teacherId":6635020,"projectId":7652498,"letterContent":"The new resources have made a significant impact on how my students and I stay organized and engaged in the classroom. One of the most helpful additions has been the spinning book organizer. It allows multiple students to browse and discuss books together, sparking conversations and encouraging peer recommendations. This not only promotes reading but also creates a more collaborative classroom environment.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first walked into the classroom on the first day of school and saw the materials set up, their reactions were full of excitement and curiosity. The clearly labeled areas and organized spaces helped them understand right away that everything had a purpose and place. It created an inviting atmosphere where they felt ready to explore and learn. The abundance of new learning tools made the space feel rich with opportunities.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the focus is shifting toward student-driven learning. Our next steps involve giving students more ownership of their education by encouraging them to take the lead on projects and daily tasks. With the structure already in place from these new resources, students are better equipped to navigate their learning independently. I'm excited to watch them grow in confidence, take initiative, and find success in ways that are meaningful to them.","fullyFundedDate":1692115603529,"projectUrl":"project/chaos-gets-organized/7652498/","projectTitle":"Chaos Gets Organized!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Quinn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6635020_orig.jpg?crop=1091,1091,x15,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1600043398966","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6635020"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3194","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":510,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":41,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":38,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":51,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":66.6,"schoolId":3194,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Frank P Graham Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Frank P Graham Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/chapel-hill-carrboro-city-sd/frank-p-graham-elementary-school/3194"}
