I also teach 8th grade middle school students, many who prioritize charging their phones, over their iPads, nightly so many arrive with minimal charge. The use of these travel chargers and a docking station for these travel chargers has had a profound impact on my students ability to continue their iPad use seamlessly. The functionality of my classroom as improved dramatically. We have also chosen to name the chargers in order to keep track of them when students sign them out. The students and I chose basketball player names. Students are much more concerned with who still has \"Kobe\" when the period is wrapping up, as oppose to charger #3. They are happy to help hunt for the chargers who have yet to be returned. \r\n\r\nMy students are also a special population of language learners and special education designation. The ability to use flexible seating and intentional groups means that students need to be able to move around the class. These travel chargers allow for my student to avoid being stuck plugged into a wall. Their growth when in small groups of peers, in a small group lead by a teacher, or even heterogeneous partnerships have a profound impact on their learning. The ability to travel to participate in these groupings has shifted the culture in the classroom. Students, when given the option to chose groupings, now chose from a much more diverse population and they are consciously choosing partnerships they would not have previously considered. It is fantastic to see all of this from just the ability to travel with a charger for their devices.","fullyFundedDate":1768598307411,"projectUrl":"project/powering-every-reader-writer-and-think/10020245/","projectTitle":"Powering Every Reader, Writer, and Thinker","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sawyer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5103979_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768412133114","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/vickie-sawyer"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_23609","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1516,"numTeachers":117,"percentFrplEligible":51,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":22,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":58,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":83.9,"schoolId":23609,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Highlands Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Highlands Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/white-plains-city-school-district/highlands-middle-school/23609"}
