One of the hardest things to hear as a teacher is, \"I'm hungry.\" Students don't always make wise choices, like eating breakfast when it is available to them, but their hunger isn't always because of poor choices. I teach Spanish to students in grades 6-12 at Salmon River CSD. Our school, of approximately, 1400 students has a very high poverty rate. Some of our students come to school hungry and leave school knowing they will be hungry again. For these reasons, I always have snacks in my desk. Over the last 20 years, I have spent countless dollars to make sure my drawer always has something in it for my kids. \r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, I was able to purchase so many snacks. This was a financial relief on my part and blessing for the students who have come to rely on my snack drawer. Your generosity has touched at least 200 students (probably more!) this year, but it was a real game changer for a couple. I have two students who come to me every day for snacks to bring home so they can be certain they have food when they get there. So, THANK YOU. I cannot say it enough. Your generosity has made a huge difference in my students, my classroom and the lives of a couple of middle schoolers.","fullyFundedDate":1778033312709,"projectUrl":"project/teens-want-snacks-while-they-learn/10075000/","projectTitle":"Teens Want Snacks While They Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Leroux","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3709404"},{"teacherId":9561753,"projectId":10024609,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity and support of our classroom. Because of you, my middle school scientists now have access to snacks that help them stay focused, energized, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nWe have already begun using the snacks during class time, especially while students are working on science assignments, labs, and group activities. Many of my students come to class hungry, and having snacks available has made a noticeable difference. Students are more focused, more patient with challenging tasks, and better able to engage in discussions and hands-on work. One moment that really stood out to me was seeing a group of students working collaboratively on a science activity, snacking quietly while staying fully engaged instead of asking to leave class because they were hungry.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the snacks, their reactions were immediate and heartfelt. They were excited, grateful, and genuinely surprised that someone cared enough to help meet this basic need. Several students said things like, \"This is so nice,\" and \"This helps a lot,\" which really showed how meaningful your support is to them.\r\n\r\nRight now, my students are continuing to work on science lessons that require critical thinking, collaboration, and sustained focus. As we move forward, they will be analyzing data, building models, and explaining scientific concepts using evidence. Having access to snacks allows them to focus on learning instead of hunger, helping create a classroom environment where all students can participate and feel supported.\r\n\r\nThank you again for giving my students a little extra fuel and a big reminder that people believe in them. Your kindness is making a real difference in our classroom every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1768668036963,"projectUrl":"project/brain-fuel-for-budding-scientists/10024609/","projectTitle":"Brain Fuel for Budding Scientists","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Taylor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9561753"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_102735","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":297,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":70,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":30,"percentIndigenous":58,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":8,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":77.6,"schoolId":102735,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Salmon River Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Salmon River Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/salmon-river-central-school-district/salmon-river-middle-school/102735"}
