My students work hard, often through long school days filled with demanding classes, activities, and responsibilities outside of school. Having snacks available gives students an opportunity to grab something when they are hungry so they can stay focused on the task in front of them rather than trying to concentrate on an empty stomach.\r\n\r\nThe reaction when the supplies first arrived was wonderful. Students were excited to see the variety of snacks and immediately began talking about their favorites. What may seem like a small thing to an adult can mean quite a bit to a teenager. There is something powerful about a student being able to walk into a classroom, realize that there is something available for them, and know that someone took the time to think about their needs.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite aspects of having these resources available is seeing how naturally they become part of our classroom community. A student might come in having had a particularly difficult morning, grab a snack, and then settle in and begin working. Another student may be trying to get through a challenging writing assignment late in the class period and appreciate having something to help them recharge. These are small moments, but they can make a meaningful difference in a student's ability to participate and persevere.\r\n\r\nThe personal items have also helped us create a classroom environment where students feel comfortable taking care of their basic needs without embarrassment. When students know that their classroom is a place where they can find a snack or a needed personal item, it removes one more distraction and allows them to focus on learning.\r\n\r\nOur work certainly doesn't stop here. Students are continuing to tackle challenging reading, writing, discussion, and analysis activities. They are learning to develop their ideas, support their thinking with evidence, collaborate with their classmates, and communicate effectively. The snacks and personal items you provided help give them the energy and comfort to keep pushing through that work.\r\n\r\nAs an English teacher, I want my classroom to be a place where students are challenged academically but also recognized as whole human beings. Sometimes helping a student succeed means teaching them how to construct a strong argument or analyze a difficult text. Other times, it means simply making sure they have something to eat so they can make it through the next lesson.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping me do both.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has shown my students that people outside our school community care about their success. Every snack that gets picked up, every personal item that gets used, and every student who is able to refocus and get back to work is a small reminder of the impact your kindness can have.\r\n\r\nThank you for nourishing not only my students' bodies, but also their ability to learn, participate, and succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1780493106201,"projectUrl":"project/nourishment-and-personal-items-to-energi/10264810/","projectTitle":"Nourishment and Personal Items to Energize Hard-working Students!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. S","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10399215_orig.jpg?crop=628,628,x682,y27&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769800958631","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/spitale"},{"teacherId":10414571,"projectId":10051095,"letterContent":"we want to thank you with our deepest gratitude. This allows us to leave the items, that we had placed in a private setting for any student or staff to grab. We not only had students grabbing them, but the students grabbed for the homeless community as well. This allowed students to have a sense of community and serving others when normally they couldn't.
