My students were eager to put on the gloves and see theirselves performing under black light when they came in the music room. I video taped them and took their picture to show them how they would look. The experience helped even the most reluctant student to engage in performing because they felt more comfortable with their hands showing than their whole body. Their mouths even glowed as they sang. My bucket drummers eagerly demonstrated skills they had learned using white gloves because it looked \"cool\" under black light. For every student, performing with white gloves under black light increased their proficiency in their performance and unity with the whole group doing the same movement or rhythm at the exact same time. The chorus performed \"Feliz Navidad\" for the Principal's Breakfast with the gloves and black light. They started the song with the lights on and in the middle of the song when the key changed, the custodian turned the lights off and turned the black lights on. The audience was astonished at the special effect and said it was the best performance they had ever seen! The \"Bucket Bunch\", 60 fourth grade students, also performed with black lights and white gloves for the \"Principal's Breakfast\". Thanks to your donation, every student wore a pair of white gloves while they played with white duck taped sticks under black light! Please know that by helping us purchase the Yoto player for my class, you are positively impacting the educational experience of 24 kindergarteners...and many more in the years to come!\r\nFrom the moment students arrive in my classroom, they are greeted with music from live radio stations from their countries of origin. Through the Yoto, we have enjoyed everything from Colombian vallenatos to cumbias and traditional children's songs. Even listening to some local radio commercials gives students a little taste of home! This particular group of students loves to dance more than any I've ever had, and one of our favorite ways to celebrate perfect attendance (or just to get our wiggles out) is with an impromptu dance party.\r\nDon't worry, the Yoto player also helps us during independent work or yoga, when we listen to calming or classical music. Students are beginning to learn how to use the Yoto independently in small groups to listen to pre-recorded stories read by me or professionally produced tracks. It reminds me of photos from the 1930s showing children gathered around radios to hear stories. This practice is helping improve their listening skills and sparking their imaginations.\r\nI am especially excited for the day when students become more proficient readers and can record themselves reading stories for their classmates. This will be an incredible confidence builder for some, and a motivating incentive for others!\r\n\r\nThank you again so much for sponsoring this project and bringing bilingual and bicultural music and literacy to my classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1755948367269,"projectUrl":"project/please-press-play-on-read-aloud-magic-in/9454590/","projectTitle":"Please Press Play on Read-Aloud Magic in English and Español!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. R.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/197300"},{"teacherId":416279,"projectId":9474931,"letterContent":"Since a picture is worth a thousand words I wanted you to see the expressions on the faces of the students as they played the Boomwahcker tubes you provided for them and I didn't want you to wait until January to see them.
