As soon as my students saw the materials, they immediately began using them-almost before they were fully unboxed. It has helped them in such a powerful way. Students are able to self-regulate by choosing their item of choice. The crash pad is a fan favorite- they love being thrown onto it or jumping onto it. Another favorite is the spinning chair- almost always during a sensory break you can find a student using it. \r\nI am forever grateful for your help in my classroom, it has truly made all of the difference.","fullyFundedDate":1750381020850,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-seeking-solutions/9405298/","projectTitle":"Sensory-Seeking Solutions","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Aroune","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9866198_orig.png?crop=1170,1170,x0,y195&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1747441752160","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hannah-aroune"},{"teacherId":108693,"projectId":9307045,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom project, Bouncing, Breathing, and Belonging. Thanks to you, our learning space now includes a trampoline, a variety of fidgets, and calming materials that are already making a meaningful difference for my students.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, my students were thrilled! The trampoline quickly became a favorite—students use it during movement breaks to release energy and refocus. The fidgets have helped several learners stay engaged during lessons, and the calming tools have created a peaceful corner where students can self-regulate and return to learning with confidence. \r\n\r\nWe're now working on building routines around these tools, including a self-regulation station where students can choose what they need to support their focus and emotional well-being. These resources are helping us create a classroom where every learner feels safe, supported, and ready to grow. Your kindness has brought joy, comfort, and empowerment to our classroom. They were so excited to wear them!\r\n\r\nThe day we were able to practice our dances with the skirts it seemed that the students had a little extra grace and flow. They felt a bit more like ballerinas. We were able to talk about different types of skirts and other ballet attire. They were so interested in learning about the subject and their excitement grew. Then when we showed a video of their dance with the skirts on, they saw themselves in a different light. They loved how the flow of the skirt made such a difference.\r\n\r\nThen came the day of the big performance. The students were so proud to be performing in actual ballet attire and they felt complete and more confident. They danced beautifully! The parents were grateful that we were able to provide the ballet skirts and shared how their child had been talking about wearing the skirts. I let them know that there were donors like you that care about student achievement in the arts, and that your generosity provided the funds for the skirts. They were amazed and wanted me to share their gratitude.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for donating the funds for our ballet skirts!","fullyFundedDate":1746824870049,"projectUrl":"project/flowing-to-the-music/9168999/","projectTitle":"Flowing to the music!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hancock","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9524940"},{"teacherId":6546475,"projectId":9051869,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding our project! It has been a game changer during intervention time, the students love having hands on materials they can use while working. We have been working on blending sounds together to make words, students go through their kit and pick out the letters they hear to create the words said. This helps them learn and remember the spelling and phonics rules we are reviewing. It has helped one of my intervention groups really build the confidence they needed for reading. They have all increased 2 reading levels since the kits came in!\r\n My students did not know what to think at first when the box got delivered to our classroom. As I opened it up they realized it was our letters for intervention and they all started to smile. When they realized the letters were magnetic they couldn't contain their excitement. They started talking about all the areas in the room they could keep them as well to practice during the day. They said the magnetic white boards are a bonus and super helpful when practicing writing our words in sentences. \r\n We only have a few weeks left for this school year but we will continue to push forward with our reading intervention to try to help the students raise their reading level. This has helped provide the materials to help boost their confidence and build their love for learning. We have found many uses for the various materials and have worked on students using the materials independently.\r\n\r\nMy students are loving the sensory tubes when they are overstimulated or frustrated. I have one friend who has started picking one up and flipping it every time he starts to get frustrated while working. \r\nDuring our science lessons and learning about Habitats/ animals, my students have been using the animal counters to visually sort animals into correct habitats, use them as visuals during presentations, and have also been working on counting with one-to-one correspondence during math. A lot of my students are very motivated to count out animals instead of blocks or other materials. One student went from counting up to 8 to counting up to 22 (with skipping 17 a few times). \r\nOverall, I am incredibly thankful for your support and help in getting materials into the hands of my students. The swing has been a huge game changer, and has helped our students regulate and engage in their academic programming. We use it to target speech and language skills, help them with their proprioception, and gain skills in learning how to calm their bodies to be ready to learn. When our students are having difficulties during the day we have opened the swing up for sensory breaks. It has had a huge impact on the overall readiness to learn and happiness of our students. \r\n\r\nWe have used the sensory lights to give a much needed break from harsh lighting, and have been describing the colors and emotions they elicit. Students have been working on requesting and following directions of turning these lights on and off, requesting specific colors, and helping the students calm their sensory systems. \r\n\r\nThe sensory bins have been a great tool for our teachers, staff, and students to work on vocabulary and engage in sensory regulating activities while in the classroom and therapy room. The students are able to search for objects in the sensory bins, follow directions, and label vocabulary words for what they find. We have been using them to help enrich vocabulary and academic concepts presented in the classroom. \r\n\r\nThank you again for helping us obtain these much needed sensory materials.","fullyFundedDate":1739370225289,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-supports-for-sensational-student/9098456/","projectTitle":"Sensory Supports for Sensational Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Koes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6635097"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_21484","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":355,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":74,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"9.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":78.3,"schoolId":21484,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dr Charles T Lunsford School 19 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dr Charles T Lunsford School 19","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/rochester-city-school-district/dr-charles-t-lunsford-school-19/21484"}
