Thanks to your donations, my students now have access to a wonderful collection of fiction books with matching audio recordings and headphones. For many of my students, this is their very first experience with a listening center, which makes it even more exciting! They were so eager to explore the new materials and couldn't wait for their turn to put on the headphones, choose a story, and follow along in their very own book. It has been so rewarding to watch their excitement as they discover a new way to enjoy reading.\r\n\r\nOur listening center has quickly become a special part of our literacy rotations. Students are learning to listen carefully, follow along with the words and pictures, and enjoy stories independently. At this age, many children are just beginning their reading journeys, so having the opportunity to hear fluent, expressive reading while following along in a book is incredibly valuable. Not only does this help build vocabulary, comprehension, and early literacy skills, but it also encourages independence, responsibility, and a genuine love of books.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, we look forward to using our listening center to explore new stories, discuss characters and events, practice retelling, and make connections between books and our own experiences. My hope is that this center will help my students grow into confident, enthusiastic readers who see reading as something fun and exciting. We also received hats and gloves to help ensure that every child has what they need to stay warm as the colder weather approaches. My students were so excited to see all of the new items, especially the colorful hats and gloves! It was wonderful to see their smiles and excitement knowing that these materials were purchased just for them.\r\n\r\nIn kindergarten, we know that children learn best when their basic needs are met. Having extra snacks available means that no child has to worry about feeling hungry or being left out during snack time. It also allows us to provide these items discreetly so that every student feels included and cared for. The hats and gloves will be especially helpful during our outdoor recess time and throughout the cold New York winter.
