Typically, students come to me directly from French 1 at the middle school, where they have learned many basics, but have not spent a lot of time reading longer texts. I seek to immerse my students in the language and culture of French-speaking countries, and one way to do this is through reading, both as a class and independently. \r\n\r\nReading comprehensible, high-interest books that are written for language learners is the best way to make sure students get a flood of language input, and independent reading allows students to access texts that are at their level. With the funding of this project, I was able to add about 25 new titles to my classroom library, doubling its size. This means a wider range of both subject matter and levels for my kids. \r\n\r\nSince the new school year started, my students are not just using the books, but are coming into the classroom every day asking \"Do we get to read today?\" I couldn't imagine a better outcome to this project.","fullyFundedDate":1743083600591,"projectUrl":"project/language-in-language-out-the-power-of/9018715/","projectTitle":"Language In, Language Out: The Power of Reading in French","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wilkens","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2343933"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_21966","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1436,"numTeachers":112,"percentFrplEligible":23,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":78,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.0,"schoolId":21966,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Penfield Senior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Penfield Senior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/penfield-central-school-district/penfield-senior-high-school/21966"}
