I am excited to share how these materials are being used daily in our kindergarten classroom and the meaningful impact they are having on student learning.\r\n\r\nThe Play-Doh letter stampers are a favorite during literacy centers. Students use them to stamp and build high-frequency words, helping them connect letter shapes to sounds while also strengthening their fine-motor muscles. This hands-on approach has been especially helpful for students who struggle with pencil control, as it allows them to practice word formation in a fun and accessible way. I am seeing increased engagement, confidence, and willingness to attempt new words.\r\n\r\nThe magnetic letter tiles are used regularly during small-group literacy instruction to support CVC word building and phonics scaffolding. Students manipulate the tiles to segment, blend, and change sounds in words, which strengthens their understanding of how sounds work together. Being able to physically move the letters helps make abstract phonics concepts concrete, and students are becoming more accurate and confident in decoding and spelling simple words.\r\n\r\nThe magnetic building tiles are used both during playtime and instructional activities. During play, students design and build structures, promoting creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. During math and geometry activities, we use the tiles to create composite shapes, helping students explore how smaller shapes can combine to form larger ones. This hands-on exploration has improved students' spatial awareness and their ability to recognize and describe shapes.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students are learning through purposeful play, strengthening their hands, and building essential early literacy and math skills in joyful ways. These materials have truly enhanced our classroom environment and are making a lasting difference for my learners.","fullyFundedDate":1765498639620,"projectUrl":"project/building-strong-hands-and-bright-minds/9798716/","projectTitle":"Building Strong Hands and Bright Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Ohlsen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3091589_orig.jpg?crop=285,285,x0,y35&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1659010160977","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3091589"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_22629","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":506,"numTeachers":37,"percentFrplEligible":63,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":44,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":39,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":82.1,"schoolId":22629,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Barton Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Barton Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/patchogue-medford-unified-sd/barton-elementary-school/22629"}
