This is the third year of a theatre program at our bilingual elementary school. This is also the third year of being a partner in the Disney Musicals in Schools program. This year marked our most ambitious and creative show yet - Lion King Kids.\r\n\r\nYour donation of a sewing machine and materials helped to make costumes for the show. From sewing costumes inspired by the various animals of The Lion King, your donation allowed us to expand the possibilities of what our actors could wear onstage. Students were so excited to see the costumes that were made for THEM. Each piece was unique and fitted to each student. \r\n\r\nThe sewing machine donation also inspired a new costume design unit for my 5th graders, where they researched, planned, and designed their own costumes. I am looking forward to teaching some basic sewing skills to my students next year to enhance their technical theatre learning.","fullyFundedDate":1746785561696,"projectUrl":"project/expanding-creativity-with-original-costu/9149809/","projectTitle":"Expanding Creativity With Original Costumes","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Castro","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9889331_orig.jpg?crop=2464,2464,x0,y410&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738177920214","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9889331"},{"teacherId":9701906,"projectId":8695182,"letterContent":"Over the past school year, introducing recorders into our music program has had a very positive impact on our students. Beyond just learning to play an instrument, the recorders have given students a hands-on way to explore musical concepts and develop important skills.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest benefits has been improving music literacy. Students learned to read notes, rhythms, and basic notation with much more confidence since they could immediately apply what they saw on the page to their instrument. This helped bridge the gap between theory and practice.\r\nThe recorders also encouraged listening and teamwork. Because the instrument is played in groups, students had to pay close attention to one another, balance their sound, and keep a steady tempo together. This built not only ensemble skills but also patience and cooperation.\r\n\r\nAnother clear benefit was the way the recorders supported fine motor skills and coordination. Finger placement, breath control, and posture all required focus and practice, which carried over into better discipline in other classroom activities.\r\n\r\nFinally, the recorders made music class fun and motivating. Many students expressed pride in being able to play recognizable songs, and the progress they achieved gave them a sense of accomplishment. For some, it even sparked a deeper interest in pursuing other instruments.\r\n\r\nOverall, the use of recorders this year proved to be an engaging and effective tool for building musical foundations while fostering joy and confidence in our students.","fullyFundedDate":1724888057473,"projectUrl":"project/music-triggers-overall-learning-and-crea/8695182/","projectTitle":"Music Triggers Overall Learning and Creativity!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Lima","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9701906_orig.jpg?crop=1413,1413,x1096,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724765424085","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9701906"},{"teacherId":9889331,"projectId":9038167,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support! Thank you for your patience in getting this Thank You note to you. I am the theatre teacher at our school and this is the first time we have started a theatre program. Last year, we produced Frozen KIDS in a non-traditional theatre space (the high school gym). The theatre cubes gave us the opportunity to add levels and interesting staging for our performances.\r\n\r\nThe theatre cubes were also super helpful for our theatre classes. My classroom was an open space last year. The theatre cubes became extra seating, tables to work on, set pieces, levels for acting, and even the base of a puppet theatre. The students were so excited to be able to use them for theatre exploration in the theatre classroom.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your support in helping us build a theatre classroom.
