I am excited to share how meaningful this experience has been for our students and our classroom community.\r\n\r\nSince setting up the garden, students have been deeply engaged in observing growth patterns, measuring progress, and caring for our plants each day. The garden has become a hands-on learning hub—sparking curiosity about science, sustainability, and healthy foods. Students who are usually quiet have found a sense of pride in tending to the plants, and our classroom has transformed into a greener, calmer, and more inviting space.\r\n\r\nThis project has also given us real-world lessons in problem-solving. We faced challenges such as water pH balance, unexpected wilting, and figuring out proper light and nutrient schedules. Through trial and error, students made hypotheses, tracked changes, and adjusted our setup. Rather than setbacks, these challenges became powerful learning opportunities. The experience taught our class that growth—of both plants and people—takes patience, teamwork, and resilience.\r\n\r\nWe are proud to say that our garden continues to thrive. Students keep asking, \"What should we plant next?\" We plan to expand the project by growing herbs and leafy greens that we can share with our school community.\r\n\r\nYour generosity made this possible. Because of you, our students are learning to nurture living things, apply science skills, and see themselves as environmental stewards. We are truly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1742063458605,"projectUrl":"project/growing-futures-hydroponic-gardening-fo/9098178/","projectTitle":"Growing Futures: Hydroponic Gardening for Hands-On Learning and Sustainability","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mignola","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6401521_orig.jpg?crop=565,565,x0,y101&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1686858389469","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6401521"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_123718","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":189,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":48,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":38,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.7,"schoolId":123718,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about United Charter High School Humanities IV on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"United Charter High School Humanities IV","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-state-department-education/new-visions-charter-high-school-humanities-iv/123718"}
