As part of the simulated baby and budgeting project, students will learn how caring for a child impacts every aspect of life, from sleep schedules to daily routines to the financial choices that come with raising a family in New York. By integrating the baby dolls into this project, students will gain hands-on, meaningful insight into how personal decisions about sexual health and family planning affect both the present and future.\r\n\r\nWhen the dolls were introduced, the energy in the classroom was undeniable. Students were thrilled to see the realistic dolls and immediately started imagining what the project would be like with them. Many of last year's students expressed how jealous they were, since they had used boiled eggs in place of dolls for the same project. This moment highlighted not only the excitement but also the seriousness that the dolls bring to the simulation, making the project more engaging and impactful. With these new resources, students will be completing real-life budgeting tasks, balancing childcare with their daily responsibilities, and reflecting on the choices they make as part of the experience.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the project will launch later in the year during our sexual health unit, which also covers topics such as consent, contraception, sexually transmitted diseases, and human rights. The dolls will be central to this unit, helping students connect the content to real-world outcomes. However, we still need another batch of dolls to ensure that all students can fully participate. If the school is unable to help us match the resources we've already secured, I may need to open another DonorsChoose request to provide enough dolls for every student. With the right tools, our students will be able to walk away from this project with both practical financial knowledge and a deeper understanding of the responsibilities that come with family and health decisions.","fullyFundedDate":1756997545927,"projectUrl":"project/baby-budgeting-project/9668247/","projectTitle":"Baby & Budgeting Project","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Sealy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9784761_orig.jpg?crop=1516,1516,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756743904195","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9784761"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_97269","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":700,"numTeachers":70,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":19,"percentWhite":43,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"10.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.4,"schoolId":97269,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Brooklyn Prospect Charter High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Brooklyn Prospect Charter High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-state-department-education/brooklyn-prospect-charter-school/97269"}
