The donated Anker SOLIX portable power station and Starlink system gave us something we previously did not have at our outdoor athletic venues: reliable access to both electricity and high-speed internet.\r\n\r\nThis fall, we put this technology to work with our Flag Football team at Queensbridge Park. Because we compete at an outdoor public park, we do not have access to the power outlets or internet infrastructure that would normally be available inside a school gymnasium or traditional athletic facility. The Anker SOLIX allows us to power our livestreaming equipment from the field, while Starlink provides the internet connection necessary to broadcast our games.\r\n\r\nThe greatest impact has been on our families. Work schedules, transportation, family responsibilities, and other circumstances sometimes make it impossible for parents and guardians to attend games in person. Livestreaming gives those families an opportunity to still watch their children compete and support them from wherever they are. For our student-athletes, knowing that their families can watch them represent their school—even when they cannot physically be at the field—makes the experience even more meaningful.\r\n\r\nThe technology has also helped us expand what is possible for our growing athletics program. Students are seeing firsthand how technology can be integrated into sports through broadcasting, communications, media, and event operations. It has helped us begin building the type of infrastructure that is common in larger athletic programs while creating additional opportunities for students to become involved beyond simply competing on the field.\r\n\r\nBest of all, the impact of this project will extend well beyond one season. We plan to use the same mobile livestreaming setup this spring when our soccer team begins competing outdoors. Because the equipment is portable, we can bring reliable power and internet connectivity to athletic venues where those resources would otherwise be unavailable.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in AoC Athletics and our student-athletes. While students are certainly excited to use the newest gaming technology, this project has provided them with much more than an opportunity to play video games. Esports gives our students a structured environment where they develop communication, teamwork, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and good sportsmanship. Students must learn to work together, analyze their performance, make adjustments, and support their teammates—many of the same skills we want them to develop in the classroom and eventually bring into the workplace.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting things for our students has been having access to current technology that they may not have available at home. The Nintendo Switch 2 has allowed us to expand the experiences we can offer our esports team and has generated tremendous enthusiasm among students. Having updated equipment makes students feel that esports is a legitimate and valued part of our athletics program. They take pride in representing their school and are excited to practice, improve their skills, and compete as a team.\r\n\r\nThis technology has been especially meaningful for students who may not traditionally see themselves participating in school athletics or extracurricular activities. Esports creates another pathway for students to belong to a team, develop friendships, and become more connected to their school community. We have seen students who are naturally quieter or less interested in traditional sports become enthusiastic participants, communicating with teammates and taking on meaningful roles within the program.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped us create an inclusive athletic opportunity where students can compete, collaborate, and build confidence through something they genuinely enjoy. This project has had a meaningful and immediate impact on our students, our teams, and the overall learning environment within our basketball program. Your contribution has gone far beyond equipment—it has enhanced instruction, student engagement, and school pride.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the new scoreboard, our basketball teams have been actively using it during practices, scrimmages, and games. Coaches now incorporate the scoreboard into daily instruction by teaching athletes how to manage game situations in real time. Students are learning to understand the flow of the game by tracking score, time remaining, fouls, and possession—skills that are critical to basketball IQ and decision-making. During practices, we regularly simulate end-of-game scenarios, using the scoreboard clock to teach strategy, composure, and teamwork. For example, students practice executing plays with limited time on the clock or adjusting defensive intensity based on score and time. These moments have transformed practices into more authentic learning experiences that mirror real competition.\r\n\r\nWhen our students first saw the new scoreboard installed, the reaction was immediate excitement and pride. Many students gathered in the gym to watch it power on for the first time, cheering as the lights illuminated the score and timer. For several of our student-athletes, this was the first time they had ever played in a gym with a full scoreboard. It made them feel valued, motivated, and proud to represent their school. The scoreboard elevated the atmosphere of our games and practices, helping students feel like true athletes competing in a professional, organized environment.\r\n\r\nBeyond gameplay, the scoreboard has created new leadership opportunities for students. We now involve students in operating the scoreboard during games, teaching responsibility, attention to detail, and teamwork off the court. These students work closely with coaches and staff, learning how their role supports the success of the entire team. This has been especially powerful for students who may not always be on the court but still want to contribute meaningfully to the program.\r\n\r\nYour support has also strengthened our school community. Parents, staff, and visiting teams have all commented on how the new scoreboard enhances the game-day experience. Our students feel a stronger sense of school spirit and accountability when competing in front of a visible score and clock. It reinforces sportsmanship, focus, and respect for the game.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the next steps for our students include continuing to integrate the scoreboard into instruction and competition. Coaches will expand lessons around game management, leadership, and situational awareness. Students will continue learning how to analyze performance based on score and time, helping them grow not only as athletes but as critical thinkers.
