Since school technology looks a bit different than what we use at home, I wanted to share how this tool is completely changing the game for us. Instead of my students just sitting passively and watching me write static examples on a whiteboard, this camera turns our classroom into a real-time learning lab. It lets the kids bring their own math work, diagrams, and hands-on manipulatives up to the front so the whole class can see their thinking in action.\r\n\r\nThe absolute most exciting part for the students is getting to be the \"teacher\" and show off their own strategies. They get a huge thrill out of putting their work under the camera, explaining their reasoning aloud, and comparing different ways to solve the same problem side-by-side.\r\n\r\nIt has been especially amazing to see how this has boosted the confidence of my students who usually struggle with traditional, abstract math lessons. For example, my visual and hands-on learners are totally hooked now because they can physically move blocks and counters under the camera to show what they mean. It has also been a wonderful tool for my shyer students. They might be too nervous to speak up normally, but putting their paper under the camera gives them a comfortable focus point and a powerful voice. Thank you for giving them the tools to collaborate, take risks, and learn from each other!","fullyFundedDate":1770986430047,"projectUrl":"project/learning-by-doing-making-thinking-visib/9969633/","projectTitle":"Learning by Doing: Making Thinking Visible Through Hands-On Math Exploration","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hadzovic","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6607571_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y504&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1565213030710","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6607571"},{"teacherId":6607571,"projectId":9812117,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding our new classroom printer! Your generosity is the spark that launched our EcoMath project, and we were so excited.\r\n\r\nSince classroom tech looks a bit different than the tech we use at home, I wanted to share how this printer is a total game-changer for my students. Instead of math just being numbers on a screen or worksheets in a binder, this printer lets students bring their data to life. They can actually hold their findings in their hands, turning abstract math into real, tangible projects they can share with the school.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for the kids is definitely the \"wow\" factor of seeing their own digital designs printed out as professional-looking posters and newsletters. It makes them feel like real scientists and graphic designers. They aren't just doing a math assignment for a grade anymore; they are launching a real community movement.\r\n\r\nIt's been especially amazing to see how this has clicked with a few of my students who usually fly under the radar. For example, our hands-on learners who typically wiggle through traditional math lessons are totally hooked now that they can print, cut, and physically map out where to hang their data charts. At the same time, a few of my shyer kids who rarely speak up in class have completely blossomed as our lead digital designers. This printer has given them a unique voice, showing them they don't have to be the loudest in the room to make a massive impact.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students the tools to be heard and for showing them that math can actually change the world. My students have been adoring the whiteboards from this project, and they have already made a huge difference. We use them frequently so students can work together to brainstorm ideas, draw models, and explain their thinking. It also provides students with the ability to peer assess and leave feedback for their classmates on their work. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new whiteboards, they were very excited. Many of them immediately started asking if they could use them to draw diagrams and share their answers. The large size made it easier for everyone in a group to participate, and students who are usually quieter felt more comfortable contributing by writing or drawing their ideas. The boards have made learning a lot more fun and engaging for each of them. We have used them for all sorts of topics and activities throught out the past months. \r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using the poster whiteboards for collaborative science work. Students will use them to model scientific concepts, solve problems together, and present their thinking to the class. These materials help make learning more interactive and give students more opportunities to actively participate in our lessons. Thank you for helping create a classroom where students can work together, think creatively, and share their ideas with confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1758898859118,"projectUrl":"project/big-ideas-on-big-whiteboards/9665949/","projectTitle":"Big Ideas on Big Whiteboards","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Krasinska","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9256481"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_130677","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":160,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":76,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"6 - 9","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.2,"schoolId":130677,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Young Women's Leadership School of Staten Island on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Young Women's Leadership School of Staten Island","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/young-women-s-leadership-school-of-staten-island/130677"}
