They provide a safe and calming outlet for children to express and regulate their feelings, especially when they may not yet have the words to do so. Through hands-on exploration, students are able to release frustration, reduce anxiety, and refocus their energy in a positive way. These tools also help build self-awareness and coping skills, encouraging children to recognize their emotions and respond more appropriately. Beyond regulation, the sensory experiences promote confidence, independence, and engagement, allowing each child to feel more secure, supported, and ready to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1766063709734,"projectUrl":"project/tiny-hands-big-feelings-building-our-s/9857682/","projectTitle":"Tiny Hands, Big Feelings: Building Our Sensory Oasis","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Peña Capellan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2122972_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1668905116971","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/z108musicteacher"},{"teacherId":9931936,"projectId":9895156,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, these yoga and mindfulness books have made a meaningful impact on my students—growing as thinkers and self-aware learners.\r\n\r\nTeaching with these books allows me to introduce important life skills alongside literacy skills. Through these yoga and mindfulness texts, students are learning how to identify and name their emotions, practice self-regulation, focus their attention, and use breathing or movement strategies to calm their bodies. From a reading standpoint, students are building vocabulary related to emotions and the body, following step-by-step directions, making text-to-self connections, and reflecting on how strategies in the books can help them in real-life situations.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is calm, interactive, and reflective. Students listen as I read aloud and practice a breathing exercise or a pose described in the book. Other times we discuss how a strategy might help them when they feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or excited.\r\n\r\nStudents love leading the class in a yoga pose they learned from a book, building both confidence and leadership skills. Seeing students use these strategies on their own is incredibly powerful. \r\n\r\nYour support didn't just add books to our classroom—it gave students tools to understand themselves, care for their emotions, and approach learning with greater calm and confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1763392015495,"projectUrl":"project/little-yogis-calm-bodies-big-hearts-y/9895156/","projectTitle":"Little Yogis, Calm Bodies, Big Hearts: Yoga and Mindfulness Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Maria","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9931936_orig.png?crop=210,210,x0,y11&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742927079250","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/maria-zervos"},{"teacherId":2122972,"projectId":9800049,"letterContent":"We are incredibly grateful for your generosity and support of our students. Because of your kindness, our gym now has gross motor materials, a bubble machine, disco lights, and a play tunnel. When the children first saw the materials, they were excited to use them and everyday you can see the children always interested in using them. These gross motor materials and the play tunnel have given our students daily opportunities to build coordination, balance, and muscle strength in a safe and playful way. For students with poor muscle tone, these materials have been especially impactful. Through climbing, crawling, and active play, we have seen improved strength, and greater control over their bodies.\r\nThe bubble machine and disco lights have brought so much joy into our movement activities. Chasing bubbles, dancing under the lights, and moving freely to music motivate students to participate while naturally strengthening their balance and coordination. These engaging sensory experiences help our children stay focused, regulated, and eager to move.","fullyFundedDate":1760822963757,"projectUrl":"project/move-groove-grow/9800049/","projectTitle":"Move, Groove & Grow!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Peña Capellan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2122972_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1668905116971","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/z108musicteacher"},{"teacherId":9931936,"projectId":9134788,"letterContent":"The new yoga mats have transformed our classrooms! We've incorporated them into our daily mindfulness and movement routine, giving students a comfortable and personal space to stretch, breathe, and refocus. One memorable moment was when we held our first \"Mindful Monday\" session—students quietly rolled out their mats, practiced breathing exercises, and shared how calm and focused they felt afterward. It set a peaceful tone for the entire week.\r\n\r\nThey were so excited! Many students immediately chose their favorite colors and couldn't wait to try them out. Some even said, \"It feels like we have our own yoga studio!\" Their enthusiasm made it clear how much these mats mean to them.\r\n\r\nNext, we're combining our mindfulness work with lessons on emotional regulation and goal-setting. Students will use their yoga mats during short reflection periods to practice grounding techniques. We're also planning a \"Yoga and Gratitude Week,\" where students will lead mini-sessions for their classmates to build confidence and leadership skills.","fullyFundedDate":1743466100813,"projectUrl":"project/mats-for-prek-yogis/9134788/","projectTitle":"Mats for PreK Yogis","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Maria","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9931936_orig.png?crop=210,210,x0,y11&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742927079250","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/maria-zervos"},{"teacherId":2122972,"projectId":9083832,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your generous donation, which made it possible for us to acquire a high-quality laptop for our students. Your kindness and support are truly invaluable, and we are overwhelmed with appreciation for your commitment to enhancing learning opportunities.\r\n\r\nThe laptop has been instrumental in creating engaging presentations, videos, and educational content that empowered our students with disabilities to increase speech and language. I made games on Canva that enabled students to use the interactive features of the board to engage with concepts which deepen the learning because as we know, children learn best through play. The laptop gave me the opportunity to support our teachers and students Stepping Up Day performances. \r\n\r\nOn behalf of our students, families, and everyone involved in this project, thank you for your kindness and belief in our mission.
