This industrial-grade printer allows us to work with real engineering materials like PEKK, nylon, and ASA — the same substances used in medical implants and aerospace components. Instead of just learning about design, students are now experiencing how advanced technology transforms digital models into tangible, high-performance prototypes. It's the bridge between theory and real-world engineering that most young learners only read about.\r\n\r\nThe excitement in our CAD lab has been electric. Students are fascinated that they can now create parts strong enough for wind-tunnel testing or prosthetic prototypes modeled after real biomedical cases. They've been amazed to learn that PEKK — one of the new materials we can now use — is the same material that makes up my own skull implants after surgery. That connection has turned curiosity into inspiration, and it's fueling genuine conversations about how engineering can improve and even save lives.\r\n\r\nSome of our most passionate young designers, who once hesitated to push their ideas beyond classroom plastics, are now leading the way with bold, research-backed designs. A few have already begun developing small biomedical and aerodynamic projects they plan to enter in competitions this year. The confidence they've gained from working with real-world materials is incredible to witness. Your support has made a profound difference in my classroom, and I am thrilled to share the impact with you.\r\n\r\nThis project has sparked something truly special in my students. Watching them become immersed in Grisham's masterful storytelling—with its suspense, tension, and compelling characters—has been a joy to witness. What began as an introduction to a new author and genre quickly transformed into genuine enthusiasm for reading. Students who initially approached the book with hesitation found themselves unable to put it down, eagerly discussing plot twists and character motivations during our literature circles.\r\n\r\nThe most remarkable outcome has been seeing how many students chose to continue reading more of Grisham's works on their own time. After experiencing his writing style and the legal thriller genre through The Whistler, they've sought out titles like The Firm, A Time to Kill, and The Pelican Brief. This voluntary continuation of reading is exactly what I had hoped for—students discovering that reading can be exciting, engaging, and something they want to do for pleasure, not just for class assignments.\r\n\r\nYour contribution of these twenty copies has allowed my students to participate in meaningful literature circles, where they've developed their analytical skills, expanded their vocabularies, and learned to articulate their thoughts about complex themes. They've written thoughtful book reviews and shared their recommendations with peers, creating a ripple effect of reading enthusiasm throughout our school community.\r\n\r\nIn these post-pandemic years, when sustained reading has become increasingly challenging for many students, your support has helped them rediscover the power and pleasure of getting lost in a good book. You've given them more than novels—you've given them an opportunity to develop perseverance, critical thinking skills, and a love of literature that will serve them well beyond high school.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and investing in their literacy journey. They created designs or picked designs online. Then, I brought a heating press and demonstrated pressing the designs onto the bags in front of them. They were awed at this process. As a teacher, maintaining a clean and organized learning environment is vital to ensuring my students can focus and thrive. With the addition of rubber gloves, microfiber cloths, and screen wipes, I can keep our computers, desks, and shared equipment free from dust, fingerprints, and germs. These supplies not only help protect the technology we rely on but also contribute to a healthier space where students can engage in their learning without distractions.\r\n\r\nTeaching Computer-Aided Design requires students to work closely with computers, touching keyboards, mice, and screens throughout the day. Without proper cleaning, these high-touch surfaces can quickly accumulate dust and bacteria, leading to potential distractions and even health concerns. Thanks to these generous donations, I can now maintain a cleaner and more sanitary workspace, ensuring that students feel comfortable and safe as they explore the complexities of CAD software. Clean screens and keyboards make a noticeable difference in usability, allowing students to see details more clearly and work efficiently without frustration.\r\n\r\nBeyond the practical benefits, these cleaning supplies reinforce the importance of responsibility and care for shared resources. By modeling proper cleaning habits and involving students in maintaining our equipment, I can teach them the value of respect and stewardship for the tools they use daily. This generosity has had a direct impact on the quality of our learning environment, making it not only more functional but also more enjoyable. I sincerely appreciate the support that enables me to provide a well-maintained and welcoming space where my students can learn, create, and succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1740942405586,"projectUrl":"project/another-step-for-a-clean-cad-lab/9105257/","projectTitle":"Another Step for a Clean CAD Lab","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Buro","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9486970_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739013457296","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrburo"},{"teacherId":130090,"projectId":8708919,"letterContent":"My classroom library recently added six environmental themed books thanks to Donors Choose! I selected these specific titles to spark students' curiosity about environmental issues such as climate change, deforestation, and biodiversity. Students selected the book that intrigued them the most, creating groups based on their choices. This not only fostered excitement but also created new student groups that revolved around their environmental interest. \r\nStudents were empowered to take ownership of their learning, which led to deeper exploration and understanding, making connections in really intriguing and outside of the box ways. Some students created playlists to reflect the themes of their books which included songs from Bob Dylan, Kanye, Bonnie Raitt and more. Others wrote and illustrated children's versions of their book explaining key concepts. Other groups made podcast episodes, mini mockumentaries, and teachable case studies to explore a specific environmental issue in detail. They were utterly fantastic!\r\nI wanted students to communicate their ideas and understandings in ways that not only felt meaningful to them but also in mediums they were comfortable and confident in. Rather than have them write a traditional book report, these projects encouraged creativity and critical thinking, all while exploring environmental topics more deeply than I expected!\r\nFinally, the project allowed students to develop important 21st-century skills valued in our school; communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creative thinking. As the year continues, students will continue to dive into their books' content and create new projects to showcase their connection and understanding. I hope by the end of the year it will ignite some of them to make change.
