While many of our donors may use similar devices at home, the way we use them in school is intentional and instructional—students collaborate on assignments, practice language skills, and receive immediate feedback that supports their individual progress. The most exciting part for students has been the ability to take ownership of their learning; they love using the new tools to research, create presentations, and engage with lessons in a more dynamic and personalized way. One student who is typically quiet in class has especially blossomed—using the technology to record her thoughts before sharing out loud, she has gained confidence in participating during discussions. Several English language learners have also benefitted greatly, using translation and visual-learning apps to bridge gaps and deepen their understanding.
