Their backgrounds stem from Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. One of the things they have in common is the limited education they had in their home countries. With the books you so graciously bestowed on us, they now have the beginning of a library that is full of Nonfiction and Informational texts they can read for enjoyment as well as for learning. The texts are on multiple levels that allow all students access to the information.\r\n The students were so excited to see the new books and we even had a smell minute! Each student grabbed a book, opened it up, and wiffed the smell of a brand new book that has never been opened, or read by another student. The crack of the spine sounded amazing to them.\r\n Each student has had an opportunity to go through the books and select one that caught their interest. We studied different genres and how each genre had specific features. Now, students will be taking genre understanding to the next level by writing recommendation cards for other students to read before making their own selections. This gives each student the power of point of view and personal opinion.","fullyFundedDate":1758899291683,"projectUrl":"project/for-the-love-of-reading/9436078/","projectTitle":"For the Love of Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. D'Antonio","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10065118"},{"teacherId":10065118,"projectId":9441047,"letterContent":"With your support students in class 6-321 have had the opportunity to take part in many lessons centered around; character development, perspective, conflict, plot, setting, and, mood and theme. In each lesson, we deep dived into the book to have class and small group discussions that allowed all students buy in and accessibility.\r\n This book was used as a read aloud along side our curriculum. Since my students are ELL's, their reading skills/strategies are along a vast spectrum. By reading aloud to them and allowing for open discussion, allowed all students an opportunity to buy in.\r\n It was magnificent to see twenty students invested in knowing what will happen to Wilbur and Charlette. They felt every emotion throughout the reading and were kept on the edge of their seats, especially with Wilbur's fate. It was an amazing experience for both them and myself.","fullyFundedDate":1758898955162,"projectUrl":"project/help-students-get-tangled-in-the-web-of/9441047/","projectTitle":"Help Students Get Tangled in the Web of Great Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. D'Antonio","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10065118"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_1284","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":748,"numTeachers":69,"percentFrplEligible":80,"percentAsian":36,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"10.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.4,"schoolId":1284,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 58 School of Heroes on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 58 School of Heroes","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-58-school-of-heroes/1284"}
