My students are young children in a kindergarten class with severe disabilities, specifically within the AIMS special education program. Our teaching methods focus heavily on hands-on activities, including play and real-life experiences that promote active participation and teach life skills. Thanks to your generous contributions, I was able to acquire a variety of toys that the school could not provide. We regularly use Magna tiles—interlocking, colorful plastic tiles that encourage creativity and fine motor skills—and even students who had never previously engaged in building activities are now becoming confident in designing complex structures. Some students enjoy playing with soft foam blocks, which help improve their attention span; for example, today, one student played with soft blocks for over 20 minutes, remaining fully engaged, which brought tears to my eyes because this particular student could not focus on playing with any toys for longer than three to five minutes without getting frustrated or throwing tantrums.\r\nAdditionally, Legos are a favorite manipulative; two students ask for Legos daily and become engrossed in building and creating new things with them. The vehicles are also a great hit; my students love to play with them daily, and I am so happy they are growing every day in their learning. These toys are just a few examples, but every new item has significantly enhanced our learning environment and helped teach my students how to play cooperatively and interact more effectively with their peers.
