When the storage cabinets and cubby bins arrived, my 6th graders jumped right in — labeling sections, sorting materials, and claiming their individual bins with a sense of pride I hadn't quite anticipated. One student carefully arranged her sketchbook and colored pencils in her bin, stepped back, and said, \"Now I actually know where everything is.\" That moment said it all.\r\n\r\nThe difference in our day-to-day learning has been immediate. Students who used to wait for me to hand out materials are now independently grabbing fraction tiles before a math lesson, pulling art supplies without being asked, and returning everything to its labeled spot at the end of class. That kind of independence frees me up to actually teach — to facilitate discussions, pull small groups, and give individual feedback — instead of managing the logistics of a disorganized space.\r\n\r\nBeyond the practical benefits, this project has done something deeper: it has sent my students a message that their space matters and so do they. In a Title I school where resources are often scarce, walking into a beautiful, functional classroom every morning is not a small thing. LOFT made that possible, and my students and I are so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1772550499302,"projectUrl":"project/organized-spaces-independent-learners/9978954/","projectTitle":"Organized Spaces, Independent Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9781944_orig.jpg?crop=353,353,x56,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732572592044","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/thesuperclass"},{"teacherId":9781944,"projectId":9875338,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for bringing a little magic into our classroom — literally! When the materials arrived and my students spotted the Harry Potter wands, the room erupted. But what surprised me most was watching that same excitement carry over into the actual reading. Students who normally resist picking up a text were suddenly eager to \"cast spells\" by reading passages fluently and \"unlock secrets\" hidden in comprehension questions. The wands became a gateway, and the learning walked right through it.\r\n\r\nThe colored overlays and reading trackers have made a quieter but equally meaningful difference. I have students with dyslexia and visual processing challenges who used to lose their place constantly and grow frustrated before they even got started. Now they reach for their overlays independently and settle into texts with more confidence and calm. Being able to annotate with the dry erase markers and highlighters has also given every student a way to interact with what they're reading — not just sit in front of it.\r\n\r\nBecause of these tools, I've been able to run guided reading groups more effectively and push into deeper comprehension work that I couldn't always reach before. My students are building real literacy skills, and just as importantly, they're starting to see themselves as readers. Thank you for making that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1768227517501,"projectUrl":"project/reading-tools-to-unlock-literacy-success/9875338/","projectTitle":"Reading Tools to Unlock Literacy Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9781944_orig.jpg?crop=353,353,x56,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732572592044","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/thesuperclass"},{"teacherId":9781944,"projectId":9875310,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for believing in my students and making this project come to life. The day the flexible seating arrived was one of those classroom moments I'll hold onto for a long time. My 6th graders' eyes went wide when they saw the bean bag chair, and there was an immediate, enthusiastic debate about who got to try it first. Watching them settle into the wiggle cushions and snap the chair bands onto their desks — and then actually get to work — was exactly what I had hoped for.\r\n\r\nThe difference has been real and visible. Students who used to fidget, tap, or lose focus mid-lesson are channeling that energy more productively. The bean bag corner has become a quiet, calming space where students go to regroup and come back ready. One of my scholars who struggles with regulation has started choosing it independently — that kind of self-awareness in a 6th grader is a big deal, and having the right environment makes it possible.\r\n\r\nWhen working on a research and writing unit, which asks a lot of sustained focus from 11 and 12-year-olds. Having seating options that meet their bodies where they are has made a noticeable difference in how long students stay engaged. You helped turn our classroom into a space where every kind of learner can feel comfortable and do their best work. When the hygiene kits arrived, I watched my students' faces light up in a way I won't forget. They carefully picked out their toiletry bags, tucked in their toothbrushes and deodorant, and a few of them held everything up proudly to show their friends. One student quietly said, \"Ms. Clark, this is actually really nice\" — and I could hear the surprise in her voice that someone had thought of them.\r\n\r\nIn the weeks since, I've noticed real changes in the classroom. Students who used to hang back or keep their heads down during morning circle are standing a little taller. A few have mentioned using the lotion and lip balm at home and bringing the bag to gym days. These aren't small things — for kids who are navigating housing instability or stretching limited resources at home, having something that is entirely theirs sends a powerful message: you matter, and you deserve to feel cared for.\r\n\r\nMy students worked on a personal narrative writing unit, and several of them have chosen to write about moments when they felt proud of themselves. I like to think these kits played a small part in that. When you feel clean, seen, and dignified, it is so much easier to find the confidence to share your story. Thank you for helping my students walk into our classroom ready to learn — and ready to believe in themselves.","fullyFundedDate":1763995249784,"projectUrl":"project/building-confidence-through-hygiene-kits/9875347/","projectTitle":"Building Confidence Through Hygiene Kits","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9781944_orig.jpg?crop=353,353,x56,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732572592044","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/thesuperclass"},{"teacherId":9781944,"projectId":9460308,"letterContent":"Your donation transformed more than just our physical space—it transformed how my students approach learning.\r\n\r\nBefore, students spent precious learning time searching for materials, getting frustrated, and losing focus. Now, with our new shelves, rolling carts, and fabric bins, everything has a place and students know exactly where to find what they need.\r\n\r\nThe rolling carts have been especially powerful. Students can independently gather supplies for group work, return materials after projects, and take ownership of keeping our classroom organized. One student who previously seemed disengaged now volunteers to be our \"materials manager\"—she takes pride in maintaining our organized spaces.\r\n\r\nWhat's most exciting? The shift in student responsibility. My middle schoolers are developing executive functioning skills as they organize their work, put materials away, and help classmates find what they need. These aren't just storage solutions—they're tools for building independence.\r\n\r\nIn our Title I South Bronx classroom, where many students face instability outside of school, having an organized, predictable space has reduced anxiety and increased focus. Games like Just Dance have encouraged students to work together, celebrate each other's successes, and share laughter—creating genuine social connections that extend far beyond the screen. For many, this has been a safe and exciting way to practice turn-taking, imitation, and group participation.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our 3D printer will open an entirely new world of creative expression.
