Your support made it possible for us to host our very first volleyball game—an unforgettable milestone for our students, staff, and community.\r\n\r\nAs a school serving a lower socio-economic community, opportunities like this are not always within reach. Because of your kindness, our gym was transformed into a true game-day environment, giving our student-athletes an experience they had never had before. Seeing the scoreboard light up brought excitement, pride, and a sense of legitimacy to the event that meant so much to everyone involved.\r\n\r\nMore than just keeping score, your gift helped create a moment of unity and celebration. Our students felt seen, valued, and inspired. For many, it was the first time they experienced the thrill of competing in a real home game setting, and it strengthened their connection to the school and to one another.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and investing in their experiences. Your support has made a meaningful difference in the lives of our student-athletes.\r\n\r\nBecause of your contribution, our players were able to step onto the court with confidence, focus, and a sense of pride. The kneepads not only helped protect them physically, but also allowed them to fully commit to the game—diving for balls, supporting one another, and pushing themselves to succeed. Your generosity played a direct role in the growth and success of our teams this season.\r\n\r\nEven more importantly, your donation helped foster something truly special: a sense of belonging. For many of our students, being part of the volleyball team has become more than just playing a sport—it has created a family. The difference between mainstream school supply markers and the ones you gave to my students is VAST and they knew it at first stroke. The intensity and consistency of color in the POSCA marker sets this brand apart and above, and my art club students now request that we work with them every time we meet!\r\nNeedless to say, the addition of \"notions\" like the sequin set have been another great hit in the classroom and in the club. There's nothing like a little pinch of shiny color to help dramatize an artistic point or emphasize a celebratory greeting card or affirmation. \r\nOur supply of construction paper will support us through the rest of the year (it already got us through a whirlwind creative pocket of kindness cards right before Valentine's Day and will serve as foundation for our Poetry Month Special--stay tuned!).\r\n By providing us with top-notch supplies, our students felt special, acknowledged, and encouraged.Choosing our kids as recipients of your generosity has helped to provide benefits that surpass the material supplies themselves. Your gift conveyed respect for our children and their artistic integrity. I have a few kids who decided over the last month to submit artwork to contests; these are students who wouldn't have had the courage or self-confidence to do something like this earlier in the year. I believe that your gifts had a great deal to do with this, because working with professional-level art materials elevates every feature of the art-making process, most importantly, my students' excitement, imagination, and eagerness to make something that didn't exist before! I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to look through all the hundreds of applications you must receive and for choosing our school.","fullyFundedDate":1765205093821,"projectUrl":"project/handmade-with-love/9801114/","projectTitle":"Handmade With Love","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bengels","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10305026"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_1173","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":330,"numTeachers":60,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":9,"percentBlack":31,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"5.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":51.5,"schoolId":1173,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Intermediate School 49 Berta A Dreyfus on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Intermediate School 49 Berta A Dreyfus","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/is-49-bertha-dreyfus/1173"}
