But the excitement didn't stop at land—during a trip to Coney Island beach, a student scanned the water and spotted a stingray! Students noticed, and there was this small but real sense of relief—especially from students who deal with severe allergies. One student said, \"This makes group work feel easier,\" and that honestly stuck with me because so much of what we do in ELA depends on students working closely together.\r\n\r\nNow it's just routine. Before literature circles or group activities, students sanitize without being reminded. During peer work, they're more comfortable sharing materials and moving between stations. It doesn't feel like an \"extra step\"—it just helps things run smoothly.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're reading A Midsummer Night's Dream, and students are acting out scenes. They're figuring out how to bring the language to life—tone, movement, even humor—and honestly, they're having fun with it in a way that surprises them sometimes. There's a lot of laughter, a lot of trying things out, and a lot of \"wait, let's do that part again.\"\r\n\r\nHaving these supplies in the room just removes a layer of worry. Students aren't thinking about shared materials or what they're touching—they're focused on the scene, their group, and how to make Shakespeare actually make sense on stage.\r\n\r\nOverall, it's made the classroom feel a little more relaxed and open. Students are more willing to jump in, take risks, and just be part of the work together—and that changes everything in an ELA class like this.","fullyFundedDate":1771658419839,"projectUrl":"project/clean-safe-classrooms-peace-of-mind/9985558/","projectTitle":"Clean, Safe Classrooms = Peace of Mind","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bloom","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1789916_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1614257902544","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-bloomis228"},{"teacherId":226611,"projectId":10094042,"letterContent":"Your generosity and support mean so much to our students and classroom community. Instead of just writing responses, they used the Cricut to design and create visual pieces based on those lines. They had to choose meaningful quotes, think about the tone and context, and then represent that visually through fonts, symbols, and layout. One group working with a powerful line about ambition created a bold, dramatic design with sharp edges and strong contrast, which led to a great discussion about how Shakespeare builds intensity through language.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the Cricut in action, they were immediately hooked. A lot of them were surprised by what it could do, and it sparked a lot of curiosity. It also brought in students who don't always feel confident with traditional reading and writing tasks—they were excited to contribute ideas and see their work come to life.\r\n\r\nNext, we're continuing the Shakespeare study by having students create character-focused pieces. They'll design visual profiles that highlight a character's traits, motivations, and key moments in the text, combining short written analysis with Cricut-created elements.
