Your generosity provided us with a much-needed printer that is already making a meaningful difference in the daily lives of our students.\r\n\r\nAs a school counselor, I use technology every day to support students academically, socially, and in their college and career planning. Having access to a reliable printer allows me to quickly create and provide students with the resources they need—from academic and SEL activities to college and career materials, scholarship information, forms, checklists, and other resources that help them plan for their futures.\r\nFor many of our students, having a printed resource right in front of them makes information feel more accessible and manageable. Instead of simply receiving information digitally, students can highlight, write notes, make plans, and take materials home to continue working with their families. The printer has also made it easier for me to prepare individualized materials for students based on their specific need. \r\nStudents who have especially benefited are those who need additional support staying organized and engaged with their academic and post-secondary goals. Our students have very different needs, and having the ability to quickly print individualized resources allows me to meet them where they are.\r\n\r\nStudents preparing for college, careers, Regents exams, graduation, and life after high school can now receive materials they can immediately use. These books were especially powerful because the visual support helped students access complex stories and ideas, even when they were still developing their English language skills. Students who were initially hesitant or reluctant to read in English gained confidence as the illustrations provided context and supported comprehension.\r\n\r\nDuring our book club discussions, students practiced identifying central ideas, analyzing character development, and examining the author's writing strategies. These are critical literacy skills that directly support preparation for the New York State ELA Regents Exam. The graphic novels allowed students to engage with rigorous content in an accessible and meaningful way.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom became an interactive and collaborative experience. Students eagerly discussed plot events, shared interpretations of the visuals, and supported one another in making connections between the text and images. Many students who are usually quiet during reading activities became active participants in conversations about the books.\r\n\r\nThe excitement these graphic novels generated was incredible to see. Students looked forward to book club meetings, asked thoughtful questions, and demonstrated a deeper engagement with reading than ever before. The things that we have been doing with this printer are the following; we are able to print articles that students are interested in. Second that they think about the article in the class, we are able to print out worksheets when the school copier is down, which is at least once a week, and things like recommendation letters can be printed with color now. Thank you for leveling the playing field for us. This saves valuable time and energy because if I had to explain the skill without a visual, it would be more difficult for the students to understand. Each day for a do now, the students are asked to complete one prompt, but some want to go further and do more! Providing a journal that asks the students to reflect about who they are, what their goals are, questions about real life situations, and others engages the students.
