The moment we powered them on, the room filled with awe — gasps, laughter, and the occasional \"Wow!\" as students found themselves standing at the edge of the Great Wall of China, exploring the pyramids of Egypt, or floating through space.\r\n\r\nThis technology has completely changed how my students experience learning. Instead of reading about places, cultures, and historical events, they can visit them. VR has made geography, global studies, and even science lessons more immersive and memorable. My students are developing a deeper understanding of the world and a stronger sense of curiosity about places beyond their neighborhoods.\r\n\r\nOne student who rarely speaks in class became our \"VR guide,\" helping others navigate the tools and leading discussions about what we saw after each virtual trip. The excitement and ownership my students show now — asking, \"Where are we going next?\" — has reignited engagement and made global learning real for them.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, and to this incredible technology, my students aren't just learning about the world — they're exploring it. You've helped expand their horizons in ways that words and pictures alone could never do.","fullyFundedDate":1735677082755,"projectUrl":"project/exploring-the-globe-in-our-classroom-wit/8981586/","projectTitle":"Exploring the Globe in Our Classroom with VR","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Failla","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4450933_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1516496096920","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/thepeopleschampion"},{"teacherId":4450933,"projectId":8953598,"letterContent":"When our new 3D printer arrived, the energy in the Design Lab was electric. My students could hardly wait to start designing, and the moment the first print finished, they were completely hooked. The sound of the printer at work has become the soundtrack of curiosity — a steady hum of learning, collaboration, and excitement.\r\n\r\nThis technology has transformed the way my students learn. They're no longer just reading about engineering or design — they're doing it. Students use digital modeling software to plan their projects, problem-solve when prints don't go as expected, and refine their designs layer by layer. The multi-spool printer allows them to print in multiple colors and materials at once, helping them understand real-world applications of STEM concepts like material science, coding, and mechanical design.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students is seeing their ideas become something they can actually hold. Whether it's a custom phone stand, jewelry prototype, or architectural model, every print builds their confidence and creativity. One student, who was initially shy about technology, has become our \"print lead,\" helping others troubleshoot their designs and showing incredible leadership skills.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, my students are discovering that STEM isn't something that happens far away in a lab — it's something they can do, right here, right now. You've given them the tools to imagine, create, and believe in what's possible.\r\n\r\nFrom all of us, thank you for helping our ideas take shape — literally.","fullyFundedDate":1732939856464,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-students-through-engineering/8953598/","projectTitle":"Empowering Students through Engineering: 3D Printing for Real-World STEM Applications","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Failla","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4450933_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1516496096920","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/thepeopleschampion"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_97356","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":396,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":18,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":72,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.8,"schoolId":97356,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Global Learning Collaborative on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Global Learning Collaborative","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/global-learning-collaborative/97356"}
