Ultimately, it allowed our student photographers to preserve everything from daily school life to gorgeous, high-action shots at our PSAL sports games. The opportunity to provide students with a classic that is translated by a female author, when reading though a feminist lens, allowed us to have meaningful conversations about gender and inequities that result by social constructions. \r\n\r\nReading and engagement has been at an all time high since teaching this unit. When reading the older translation of the text, so many students would give up and refuse to engage with the text. It was great to be able to give kids a feeling of abundance and care as they transitioned into high school.\r\n\r\nStudents have been comfortable moving around the room to find the supplies they need in labeled locations, and they know that whatever they are looking for can be found in our classroom. By now, they are established in the routine of taking a task page, putting it into their dry erase sheet protector, and clipping it to their whiteboard with a magnetic clip before settling in and starting to think about their task.
