Students were so engaged in the book from minute one - comparing the similarities and differences to our world, tracking the movement on a real map, and creating a large family tree to keep track of different characters. At the end of the unit, most students rated the book between 4 and 5 stars, and said that it was one of their favorite books they'd ever read in school.\r\n\r\nHaving copies of this new book allowed us to significantly increase the reading rigor in our classroom, with a text that was more of an appropriate challenge level for students and enough copies of it that students could have their own to bring home for reading homework. \r\n\r\nThis was one of our favorite, most interesting units that my co-teacher and I have taught, and we are looking forward to continuing to offer it in future years thanks to these book copies.","fullyFundedDate":1759840158967,"projectUrl":"project/parable-of-the-sower-class-copies/9778990/","projectTitle":"Parable of the Sower Class Copies!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Katya","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10295039"},{"teacherId":9499518,"projectId":8772368,"letterContent":"Thank you immensely for all of your contributions to last fall's \"No to phones! Yes to games!\" effort. Students have been making great use of the games and puzzles, and some of them are getting \"loved\" to the point where you can see the wear and tear. This is a good thing! \r\n\r\nIt's always inspiring to see students opt for Scrabble or Connect Four rather than staring at their phones. Chess has taken off recently as well, and as I write this there are two games going! Students actually ask to be late for class so that they can finish their games. I'm a stickler however, so I usually tell them to put it aside and promise to guard it until they come back. :) \r\n\r\nYou are wonderfully generous and I appreciate you!","fullyFundedDate":1727293081202,"projectUrl":"project/no-to-phones-yes-to-games/8772368/","projectTitle":"No to Phones! When my students first received the materials, they were so excited about the colors, our Cat Mascot, and the opportunity to brag about our new fridge/freezer combo, microwave, and hot water heater! Immediately upon unpacking all of these awesome devices, students went to work decorating the cat cafe with their original artwork, showcasing the theme (inspired by one specific students who LOVES pink and cats! We also dedicated this to the Japanese cat cafes because my students all love all things Manga. \r\n\r\n Our next steps for this project was, you guessed it, ANOTHER Donor's Choose where we selected the best variety of healthy, yet delicious snacks that we could use to fill the cat cafe. That project was fully funded on New Year's Eve 2025 and we just received our shipments of snacks!\r\n\r\n Using this dedicated Cat Cafe space and the snacks soon to be contained within, we are going to dive into practicing real-world applications to operating a functioning cafe as well as learning how to earn and budget their own earnings. Each student will receive their weekly \"paycheck\" from the previous week, and, throughout the week, they will either receive incentives or fines around whether or not they meet classroom, academic, and social-emotional benchmarks and expectations. They can exchange their \"Cat Cafe Cash\" for snacks operating in the cafe. Eventually, they themselves will run the cafe, keep inventory lists, do sales and change item prices, and be paired up to be each others' \"accountants\", keeping track of weekly earnings, expenses, and debts. \r\n\r\nAll of this is possible because of you!!
