My principal often says \"Order precedes learning\" and being organized and prepared is a significant step in ensuring that order in our classroom is present. If you have not heard of Eagle Academy, I urge you to watch the documentary The Infamous Future, where you can see for yourselves the impact that the network of Eagle Academy schools has made across low-income areas of NYC and New Jersey. My location (Staten Island) was not up and running yet, so we unfortunately are not featured in the documentary, but the mission of Eagle is uniform throughout. \r\n The means to be organized and ready to learn immediately upon entering my classroom has given my students valuable extra minutes spent engaging in our work. Completing projects that require them to have many supplies has become less stressful for students who have difficulty keeping track of their materials and students who do not have the means to purchase the supplies on their own. The ability for my special education students to annotate their notes and store their reference sheets has made application of eighth grade math concepts significantly easier for children who would not otherwise be able to complete grade-level tasks independently. \r\n My students also thrive with routines, so being able to walk into the classroom, and grab their \"math bag\" and reference folders has made them more confident, efficient, and independent. This is a very important step in shifting the mindset of young men who have an educational gap to close. When they first saw the headphones, they were thrilled and eager to use them right away.\r\n\r\nYour support has made a meaningful difference in our classroom.
