When the materials first arrived, my students were beyond excited. Seeing their faces light up as we unpacked the supplies was a highlight of our week; they immediately felt the support of a community that believes in their potential and their hard work.\r\nWe have already begun using the resources to create a welcoming, collaborative environment. It has transformed our classroom into a space where students can fuel up and focus, making our daily lessons feel more like a community experience. This \"Little Cafe\" has provided more than just supplies; it has fostered a sense of belonging and comfort that helps everyone stay engaged and motivated during our most challenging units.\r\nAs we move forward, these resources will continue to support our students as they prepare for their upcoming exams and final projects. One especially meaningful project was a student-led fundraiser for our seniors. Using the candy and themed items, students organized and ran the fundraiser themselves, building excitement across the school community. I'm proud to share that we raised enough to help supplement the cost of senior trip and prom—expenses that can be exorbitant for many of our students and families.\r\n\r\nIn addition, leftover items have been thoughtfully distributed and used within the classroom to continue supporting students' social-emotional development. We've incorporated them into calming moments, peer connection activities, and small gestures of encouragement that help students feel grounded and supported throughout the day.\r\n\r\nTheir reactions were immediate and heartfelt—there was genuine excitement, but also a sense of appreciation and surprise. Many students didn't expect to see materials focused on their well-being and connection, and it made a strong impression.\r\n\r\nDuring the fundraiser, students were especially energized—they felt a sense of purpose knowing they were contributing to something meaningful for their peers. It created a shared sense of community and pride that extended beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\ne're continuing to build on this momentum by strengthening both community and emotional support in our classroom. Students are taking more ownership of maintaining a positive, welcoming space and are continuing to suggest ways to support one another.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will keep integrating social-emotional learning into daily routines, using the remaining resources to create opportunities for reflection, peer encouragement, and stress relief. The success of the fundraiser has also inspired students to think about future service-oriented projects—ways they can continue giving back and strengthening connections within our school community.\r\n\r\nUltimately, these resources have helped us move toward a classroom environment where students feel not only academically supported, but also emotionally valued and connected.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your support! The classroom was a total construction zone, and honestly, the reaction was priceless. My high schoolers aren't always the easiest to impress, but the second they walked in and saw the kits waiting on their desks, their whole demeanor changed. It was such a great way to let them decompress, get a little competitive, and just enjoy being around their friends after a really long semester. Watching them stress out over balancing candy-covered walls instead of test scores was exactly what everyone needed.\r\n\r\nThe best part was seeing how collaborative they got—there was a lot of \"engineering\" advice being shouted across the tables! We're actually going to carry that momentum into our next unit. We're moving from gingerbread to a geometry project where we'll be breaking down those same 3D shapes to calculate surface area and volume. It's been a great bridge between having fun and getting back into the swing of academic work. Thank you again for making this possible and for giving my students such a memorable way to head into the holidays.","fullyFundedDate":1765251585372,"projectUrl":"project/gingerbread-house-making/9938146/","projectTitle":"Gingerbread House Making!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. LaPorta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7592728"},{"teacherId":9814436,"projectId":9840829,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our students now have access to resources that are already making a powerful difference in their daily lives. As the school social worker, I have the privilege of seeing firsthand how your support is helping students feel safer, calmer, and more ready to learn.\r\n\r\n**How We're Using the New Resources**\r\n\r\nWe created sensory baskets for each classroom, filled with fidget tools, stress-relief items, and calming supports that students can access throughout the day. These baskets have become a normal, welcomed part of classroom routines. For example, during a recent math lesson, one student who often struggles with anxiety quietly reached for a stress ball from the basket. Instead of shutting down when the work became challenging, he stayed engaged, completed the assignment, and even volunteered to share his thinking with the class. It was a small moment—but a huge victory.\r\n\r\nIn counseling sessions, we've been using the journals, emotion cards, and mindfulness games during small group SEL lessons focused on identifying feelings and practicing self-regulation strategies. One group recently completed a \"Feelings and Coping Skills\" project where students created personal coping toolkits using art supplies, reflection worksheets, and therapeutic coloring pages. They were able to identify triggers and match them with healthy strategies like deep breathing, drawing, or asking for help.\r\n\r\nThe art therapy materials have been especially impactful. Students who sometimes struggle to put their feelings into words are expressing themselves through sketching and painting. It has opened doors to conversations that might not have happened otherwise.\r\n\r\nAnd the snacks—what a difference they make. Having healthy food available has helped students maintain energy and focus, particularly in the afternoon. When basic needs are met, emotional regulation becomes much more attainable.\r\n\r\n**Student Reactions**\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the sensory baskets and new materials, their reactions were filled with excitement and curiosity. Many said things like, \"Is this really for us?\" and \"We get to use these whenever we need them?\" Seeing them feel seen and supported was incredibly moving.\r\n\r\nThe snacks were met with pure gratitude. For some students, it meant not having to worry about when they would eat next. The relief on their faces said everything.\r\n\r\n**What's Next**\r\n\r\nOur next steps include expanding our SEL lessons into a schoolwide coping skills unit. Students are currently working on a project where they design \"Calm Plans\"—personalized step-by-step guides they can use when they feel overwhelmed. Using the mindfulness tools, emotion cards, and art supplies you provided, they are identifying warning signs, practicing breathing strategies, and creating visual reminders they can keep in their desks.\r\n\r\nWe are also continuing to build emotional vocabulary through weekly small group sessions and integrating sensory supports more intentionally into classroom routines. The goal is not just to respond to big emotions—but to proactively teach students how to manage them.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, our school is becoming a place where students don't just learn academics—they learn how to understand themselves, regulate their emotions, and believe in their ability to succeed.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in their well-being. Thank you for helping us create a space where every child feels valued, understood, and supported.","fullyFundedDate":1766067700117,"projectUrl":"project/cims-senses-sensory-sel-nourishment-/9840829/","projectTitle":"CIMS SENSES: Sensory, SEL, Nourishment & Support Essentials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Headley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9814436_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1729786497374","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9814436"},{"teacherId":121397,"projectId":7222417,"letterContent":"Thanks for donating these wonderful books for my students in the Bronx. \r\n\r\nStudents love new books and I will be putting some of these in our school library.
