Your support has made a meaningful difference for our scholars, particularly our English Language Learners (ELLs), Multilingual Learners (MLLs), and newly enrolled students who are adjusting to learning in an English-speaking environment. As a Title I school serving a culturally and linguistically diverse community in Far Rockaway, Queens, we understand the importance of providing students with resources that reflect their languages, cultures, and experiences. These books are shared across our sixth-grade classrooms, allowing more scholars to access literature that supports their reading development, builds confidence, and fosters a sense of belonging.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding parts of this project has been hearing directly from our scholars about the impact these books have had on their reading experiences. Several students wrote heartfelt thank-you letters explaining that reading in English can be challenging because they are still developing their vocabulary and comprehension skills. One scholar shared that Spanish is their native language and that having books in Spanish makes it easier to understand and enjoy stories. Others expressed excitement about finally being able to follow a story independently, understand its characters, and discuss what they have read. Their reflections demonstrate how access to books in their home language can transform reading from a frustrating experience into one that is meaningful, enjoyable, and empowering.\r\n\r\nBeyond supporting individual readers, your generosity has helped us create a more inclusive and welcoming sixth-grade learning community. These books provide opportunities for independent reading, vocabulary development, comprehension practice, and meaningful connections to literature while our multilingual scholars continue strengthening their English language skills. Most importantly, they remind our students that their home languages are valued and that every scholar deserves the opportunity to experience the joy of reading. Thank you for investing in our scholars, celebrating the diversity of our school community, and helping us nurture confident, capable, and enthusiastic readers.
