Four MSW student interns help to facilitate individual and group sessions with students in order to address trauma, emotional distress, and behavioral difficulties. Interns are trained in various therapeutic techniques and the students at Bushwick Leaders benefit from opportunities they would not otherwise have with a supervised social worker. The students have reported that the Counseling Bodega is a space that they feel comfortable taking time away from their day to learn coping strategies to deal with behavioral and emotional issues. A cup of hot chocolate, comfortable bean bag chairs, and a weighed stuffed cat has made a tremendous difference to the student who is struggling.
