With the recent stretch of negative temperatures and biting winds, my students have been arriving at school shivering and a bit drained by the commute. When I unpacked the hot chocolate k kups, with the cups, cup warmers, and little creamers, the excitement was instant. Their faces lit up not just because of the \"stuff,\" but because they realized our classroom was about to become a lot more like home. \r\nOn those specifically brutal mornings when the temperature drops below zero, the first thing we do is gather for hot chocolate. Seeing a student wrap their hands around a warm mug and take that first sip is incredible—you can actually see their shoulders drop and their focus return. It's more than a treat; it's a moment of comfort that makes them feel cared for before we even open a textbook.\r\nBeyond the morning warmth, we are using the hot chocolate to dive into our [recipe unit in our class. Because their basic need for comfort is being met first, they are much more ready to engage with the challenging material we are tackling in English Language Arts class.\r\nNow that we've established this supportive environment, our next step is to prepare for our formal presentations in class! Your generosity provided the tools we needed, but it also provided the \"heart\" that keeps us going through these winter months. Thank you for making our classroom a bright, warm spot in their day.","fullyFundedDate":1765472383309,"projectUrl":"project/a-warm-start/9869265/","projectTitle":"A Warm Start","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Pescador","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9311825"},{"teacherId":9311825,"projectId":9551761,"letterContent":"This year our ninth graders have an extra period during the week to reinforce literacy skills. While this is an amazing and challenging task, this keeps our students in the building longer. They already have lunch at a later time in the day, therefore, our \"snacking scholars\" are truly fortunate for the healthy snacks that you have helped us gain for our semester. These snacks will help us during the weeks after school. \r\n We also have tutoring and supplemental courses and credit recovery on Saturdays. They will be able to study with much effort and will have snacks to help them keep focused and highly motivated. We truly look forward to make some great strides this year and now with this amazing generosity we are set for success! \r\n Thank you again so very much for this wonderful assistance and tremendous generosity. Your kindness has not only brought tasty joy to the students, but has had immense impact on their classroom focus and stamina. Since students don't get to eat lunch until 1 p.m., they start getting peckish during 4th or 5th period and it can be difficult for them to persist in learning when they're thinking about their growling stomachs. The snacks you donated have helped tide them over till lunch.\r\n\r\nHaving a classroom supply of snacks has also gone a long way towards reducing interruptions to our instruction time. Students can get cranky and off-task when they are hungry, or go to the office to see if they have snacks. (They usually don't!) Your support has made a tremendous impact on my students, giving them the tools they need to bring their creative visions to life.\r\n\r\nWith the new resources, my students have been designing and upcycling garments, personalizing pants and other pieces to reflect their unique styles. Seeing their ideas take shape has been incredibly rewarding. When they first saw the materials, their reactions were a mix of excitement and relief—excited for the new possibilities and relieved to have better resources that allow for more creativity and experimentation.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include organizing photo shoots to showcase their designs, where students will learn about product placement, setting, and color theory. We'll explore how photographers use composition and lighting to highlight clothing, giving them insight into the professional side of fashion presentation.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students the opportunity to expand their skills and creativity. When I shared the news with the students that we had a sponsor willing to contribute a variety of snacks, their excitement and joy were undeniable. It was truly uplifting to see how much our donors believed in and supported our self-care initiative.\r\n\r\nI will never forget the moment I saw the email confirming that the snacks had been approved – it was surreal! The excitement became real when the snacks arrived at school. I couldn't wait to share the good news, and I rushed downstairs to reveal the donations to the students.\r\n\r\nThese snacks have been such a blessing to our club. After a full day of work, our students are often hungry and need a little something to refuel while participating in activities like soap-making, body scrub, lip scrub, and nail care. The snacks have definitely helped boost their energy and enthusiasm, making it easier for them to fully engage in these self-care activities.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, I want to express my sincere appreciation for all the support our donor has provided.
