Thanks to your support, we were able to create our dream Calm Down Corner / Sensory Haven. Our students are now actively using the new sensory tools—from the weighted lap pads and soft fidgets to the visual calming timers. We're already seeing a profound difference in their ability to self-regulate: instead of crying or acting out during transitions, our little ones now choose a sensory tool or step into the Calm Down Corner to reset and re-engage in learning independently. This provides them with the sensory input they need to manage their bodies, which, in turn, frees up their minds to focus on phonics, math centers, and collaborative play.\r\n\r\nThe true impact is evident every single day as we watch our youngest learners become more confident and emotionally resilient. Seeing them excited to play doctor, nurse, pilot, police officer, and firefighter has brought joy to my colleagues, myself, and most importantly to them. \r\n\r\nOne of the greatest gifts we can give children is the opportunity to dream. We have showed them that they can grow up to be whoever they want. Together, we have opened a door for them to gain curiosity about being an adult with a career! We have given them a chance at financial security. \r\n\r\nMy classroom will now be enriched with play time that leads to a future these kids can work hard to be proud of. One student used the projector to cast star patterns on the ceiling during naptime, whispering, \"I'm sleeping in space!\" They're developing critical thinking skills, nurturing a love for science, and realizing that even the sky isn't the limit when it comes to their dreams. Thanks to your generosity, my students have embarked on an unforgettable adventure—exploring their creativity, sharpening their observation skills, and seeing their world in a whole new way.\r\nThe day our supplies arrived, my pre-K students erupted in cheers - their tiny hands immediately reached for the cameras, eager to explore their world through this new creative lens. Your support has transformed our classroom into a vibrant photography studio where curiosity and self-expression flourish daily. My young photographers eagerly captured moments—big and small—from their daily lives: a classmate's smile, the texture of leaves on our nature walk, the way sunlight spills through our classroom window. Each photo became a window into their unique perspectives, sparking conversations about shapes, colors, and emotions.\r\nThis project has done so much more than teach them how to press a button. It has:\r\n✨ Boosted confidence as they proudly shared their \"masterpieces\" with peers and family.\r\n✨ Strengthened fine motor skills as they carefully framed shots and navigated the cameras.\r\n✨ Encouraged collaboration as they worked together to plan \"photo missions\" around our school.\r\n✨ Deepened their connection to our community as they documented their world with fresh curiosity.\r\nOne of my favorite moments was when a shy student whispered, \"Look, Ms. Howard, I made Still Life Art!\" while showing me a close-up of photographs he captured of items he brought in from home. That pride—that sense of ownership over their learning—is what your generosity made possible.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping our youngest learners discover the artist, scientist, and storyteller within themselves. My students are using the ESL books to strengthen their decoding skills and expand their vocabulary, making strides in both reading and speaking. The clipboards have allowed for flexible seating, giving students the freedom to work comfortably around the room during group activities or independent tasks. For instance, during a recent vocabulary-building activity, students worked in pairs using the new books and clipboards to identify and write definitions for new words. The sensory materials and snacks have also become essential rewards, motivating students to stay focused and engaged, especially those who need a little extra encouragement to stay on task.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were thrilled! Their excitement was palpable as they eagerly unpacked the boxes and explored the items. Many students immediately started flipping through the books, pointing out pictures and words they recognized. The clipboards were an instant hit, and they loved the idea of not being tied to their desks. Looking ahead, we are working on a storytelling project where students will write and illustrate short narratives based on their own experiences. The ESL books will serve as inspiration and support for their writing, while the sensory rewards will help keep them motivated as they draft and revise their work.
