My students were incredibly excited when they saw all of the new materials, especially the LEGO flower sets. As juniors and seniors, they balance academics, activities, jobs, college plans, and all the other pressures of being a teenager, so having dedicated time to slow down and recharge has been wonderful.\r\n\r\nThis past Friday, we spent our Mental Health Friday building the LEGO flowers you see in the attached photos. Students worked together, talked, laughed, helped one another when pieces got tricky, and enjoyed creating without worrying about a grade or assignment. The room had such a relaxed energy, and it was wonderful to see students completely absorbed in building their flowers. Even better, they could take their finished creations home as a reminder of our time together.\r\n\r\nThroughout the year, we will continue using Mental Health Fridays to explore healthy ways to manage stress and take care of ourselves through creative activities, Play-Doh, games, mindfulness, and opportunities to simply unplug. Thank you for giving my students these moments of calm, creativity, and connection. Your generosity helps me create a classroom where students know their well-being matters as much as their academic success.","fullyFundedDate":1788265791509,"projectUrl":"project/building-calm-lego-play-doh-mental-h/10489418/","projectTitle":"Building Calm: LEGO, Play-Doh & Mental Health","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wallace","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3541361_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x772,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1581035764245","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ashleywallace"},{"teacherId":9758910,"projectId":10202219,"letterContent":"This event has been an annual tradition in our school. Mental Health and Wellness is not something that is always addressed or recognized as a priority; especially when our students' face home and food insecurity.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, students were able to enjoy a moment of peace with creative opportunities, community building, snacks, aromatic teas and potpourri, and the space to let loose and get silly. Your generosity has truly made a difference in our classroom.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the new resources, my students have been actively using the space as part of our daily emotional check-ins and self-regulation routines. One special moment that stood out was when the students first saw the bean bag chairs; they immediately ran over and jumped on them with excitement. It brought instant joy and comfort, and honestly, it put a huge smile on my face to see them so happy and at ease.\r\n\r\nThe fish tank has also become a calming focal point. Students often sit quietly and watch the fish during moments when they need to reset, helping them return to class feeling more focused and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are continuing to incorporate these resources into our social-emotional learning activities. Students are practicing mindfulness, using the space to reflect, and building skills to manage their emotions more independently. Our next steps include structured calming routines and guided reflection activities to help them better understand and express their feelings.\r\n\r\nI am forever grateful for your support.
