Due to the winter weather conditions (clear nights have been extremely cold and \"warmer\" nights have been either cloudy or heavy with falling snow) I have not yet been able to use the telescope outside with my students. I did set it up and peeked at a gibbous moon through my patio door (see photo). I am anxious for the opportunity to host a \"star party\" for students as soon as the weather stabilizes. All good things to those who wait! Until then, I and my students eagerly await \"first light\" with our telescope. Thank you again for making this dream a reality.","fullyFundedDate":1765665900132,"projectUrl":"project/bring-the-universe-into-our-reach/9945606/","projectTitle":"Bring the Universe Into Our Reach","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ruby","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10374869"},{"teacherId":4256286,"projectId":9900402,"letterContent":"Earth Club members were so excited to see the new greenhouse! They are using the greenhouse materials to grow plants from seed without plastic, peat or waste! Their focus is really on finding and trying eco-friendly alternatives to more commonly used seed starting techniques. \r\n\r\nTo replace the traditionally used plastic seedling trays students planted using soil blocks on reusable and recyclable aluminum trays. Traditional potting mixes are typically sealed from the air preventing beneficial soil microbes from surviving and they also usually contain peat which is a product from endangered ecosystems. Alternatively, the soil we used is a mixture of local open-air compost, organic perlite and organic green sand.\r\n\r\nStudents chose to grow a combination of food crops, annual flowers and native perennial plants. Seeds planted include celery, tomatoes, zinnia, Native Bradbury bee balm and Native New England Asters. \r\n\r\nOver the next few months these seeds will be nurtured by students who will track their success. Ultimately these plants will be incorporated into gardens throughout the community and students hope to make this a yearly project to help spread awareness of eco-friendly planting techniques.\r\n\r\nYour generosity toward this project is greatly appreciated.","fullyFundedDate":1764787530137,"projectUrl":"project/earth-club-plant-production/9900402/","projectTitle":"Earth Club Plant Production","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Muller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4256286_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1485994961792","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4256286"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_20983","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1257,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":39,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":91,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"35.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":82.4,"schoolId":20983,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lowville Academy Central School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lowville Academy Central School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/lowville-academy-central-school-district/lowville-central-school/20983"}
