As soon as I opened the boxes, they crowded around with wide eyes, eager hands, and a no less than a hundred questions. Several students who rarely show enthusiasm during traditional lessons were suddenly front and center, pointing out pieces, suggesting build ideas, and imagining what kinds of builds they could create. One standout moment came when a small group successfully coded their first motor movement—when the LEGO bricks whirred to life, the entire table erupted in cheers.\r\n\r\nSince then, the SPIKE Essentials kits have transformed the way we approach problem-solving, collaboration, and STEM learning. My students are not only building with LEGO bricks—they are learning to iterate, troubleshoot, and persevere when challenges arise. Coding has become more accessible and joyful, and I've seen a noticeable boost in confidence among students who typically hesitate with new or complex tasks. The hands-on nature of the kits has also allowed me to differentiate more effectively, giving every student an entry point into engineering and computational thinking.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, my students are beginning a new design challenge in which they'll build and program a robot to solve a real-world problem connected to our current unit. They are brainstorming, sketching prototypes, and preparing to test their ideas using the SPIKE kits. Your generosity has given them tools that spark creativity, deepen understanding, and make STEM learning come alive. Thank you for making these meaningful experiences possible—my students are truly growing because of your support.","fullyFundedDate":1757423311133,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-coding-with-lego/9664551/","projectTitle":"Hands-on Coding With LEGO","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Coady","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3268045_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692291971170","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3268045"},{"teacherId":3268045,"projectId":8795433,"letterContent":"Thank You for Your generous donation! I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of robotics mats for our coding robots. Your support has made a significant impact on our classroom and the learning experiences of our students.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the mats, my students have been excited to integrate them into our coding projects. One memorable moment was when we first unwrapped the mats; their faces lit up with joy and curiosity. They immediately realized they were even BETTER than the mat we originally had because there were more measurement lines to mark distances.\r\n\r\nWe are currently in the process of completing our final Mission in the Wonder Workshop Robotics Competition. The students have been tasked with creating a \"greenhouse on the moon\", and coding the Dash robot to check on the plants while avoiding an impending meteor shower. They are using recycled materials and everyday items like disposable cups and Lego bricks to create their greenhouses on the mats that you generously donated to our program. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to use the mats in an upcoming project where students will design their own obstacle courses for the robots to navigate. This will not only enhance their coding skills but also encourage teamwork and problem-solving.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for contributing to our classroom. Your generosity allows us to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1735704617817,"projectUrl":"project/coding-robots-with-mrs-coady/8795433/","projectTitle":"Coding Robots With Mrs. Coady!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Coady","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3268045_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692291971170","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3268045"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_21574","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":210,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":68,"percentAsian":37,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":21,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":35,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":51.3,"schoolId":21574,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dutch Lane Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dutch Lane Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/hicksville-union-free-school-district/dutch-lane-elementary-school/21574"}
