They couldn't wait to explore the lighted table and watch the gentle movement of the stimulation aquarium. The spin chair quickly became a favorite tool for helping students regulate and refocus before speech sessions.\r\n\r\nIn therapy, we now start with short sensory breaks using the spin chair or light table. This helps my students calm their bodies so they can attend, listen, and communicate more effectively. One of my students who often struggled to stay seated now asks to \"take a turn in the spin chair\" before starting an activity—showing increased self-awareness and communication.\r\n\r\nThe magnetic cubes have become a fun way to build language and social interaction. My students take turns requesting colors, commenting (\"I made a tower!\"), and problem-solving together. These moments are small but powerful steps toward greater independence and communication.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our room now feels like a calming, safe space that supports every child's needs. Next, I'll be incorporating the sensory tools into more structured social communication groups, helping students use language while working together and managing their emotions in positive ways.","fullyFundedDate":1758636316916,"projectUrl":"project/voices-that-shine-helping-students-comm/9695404/","projectTitle":"Voices That Shine: Helping Students Communicate and Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. D'Elia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10246156_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757901200895","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/strive2"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_21569","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":538,"numTeachers":47,"percentFrplEligible":22,"percentAsian":76,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":18,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":90.0,"schoolId":21569,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Searingtown Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Searingtown Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/herricks-union-free-school-district/searingtown-elementary-school/21569"}
