Your contribution is already making an impact, even before we have begun reading.\r\n\r\nWe are planning to begin the book in May, and I am especially excited because it aligns perfectly with Mental Health Awareness Month. This timing allows us to go beyond just reading a novel and instead create a meaningful, real-world experience for my students.\r\n\r\nAlongside reading Pay It Forward, my students will be participating in a \"Pay It Forward\" project. Through this project, students will be challenged to complete acts of kindness within our classroom, school, and community. The goal is to help them see that even small actions can create a ripple effect and positively impact others.\r\n\r\nIn a school community like ours, where many students face daily challenges, this project is more than just an assignment. It is an opportunity to build empathy, connection, and a sense of purpose. Tying this work into Mental Health Awareness Month will also allow us to have important conversations about kindness, support, and how we can take care of one another.\r\n\r\nAlthough we have not started reading yet, my students are already curious and excited. Just knowing they each have their own copy of the book has created anticipation and a sense of ownership over their learning.\r\n\r\nYour support is helping to create something much bigger than a reading unit. You are helping us build a classroom culture centered on kindness, awareness, and action.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and for being part of this journey with us.","fullyFundedDate":1768152890646,"projectUrl":"project/pay-it-forward-inspiring-kindness-throu/9853924/","projectTitle":"Pay It Forward: Inspiring Kindness Through Reading and Action","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lynch","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1688784_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1466732709901","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1688784"},{"teacherId":1688784,"projectId":10021198,"letterContent":"I just wanted to take a moment to genuinely thank you for your generosity and share how your donations are making a real difference in my classroom.\r\n\r\nThe materials you provided have become an important part of our daily routine. I created a \"Care Closet\" in my classroom where everything is organized and accessible for students. It has quickly become more than just a storage space. It is a safe and supportive place where students can quietly get what they need, whether that is personal care items or a quick snack to get them through the day.\r\n\r\nWhat has been especially meaningful is that it is not just my students who benefit. Students from other classes often stop by asking if they can grab something they need. That alone shows how necessary and impactful your contributions are.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their reactions were immediate. They were excited, but more importantly, they were grateful. Some students who usually come in tired or disengaged were noticeably more focused once they had something as simple as a snack. It may seem small, but those moments matter. They help students feel cared for, and that changes how they show up in class.\r\n\r\nI also use snacks and snack passes as positive incentives. They have become a powerful motivator for behavior, attendance, and effort. Students work toward these rewards, and it helps build a more positive and productive classroom environment.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I plan to continue using these resources to support both academic and social emotional growth. As we move into our next units and prepare for upcoming assessments, I am focusing on building strong classroom habits, consistency, and engagement. The Care Closet will remain a key part of that support system, helping remove barriers so students can focus on learning.\r\n\r\nYour support has gone far beyond supplies. You have helped create a space where students feel seen, supported, and motivated. For a long time, the students' primary view consisted of nothing but plain, white brick walls, which often felt more institutional than inspirational. When the board first appeared, the surprise was palpable; students were genuinely taken aback to have a visual focal point that wasn't just a clock or a whiteboard. This splash of color and purpose has effectively brightened the entire room, shifting the \"vibe\" from a standard lecture hall to a vibrant, living gallery of student thought.\r\n\r\nThe board's first major role has been to serve as a hub for our collaborative projects, specifically highlighting the power of peer-to-peer feedback. By displaying our collective brainstorming sessions and annotated group texts, the resource has allowed students to see their ideas gain a physical presence in the room. There was a visible sense of pride and excitement as they walked in to find their group's contributions pinned up for everyone to see. This public validation has turned the feedback process into a point of connection, where my AP students and English 11 students alike can observe how their peers tackle complex literary themes, making the learning process feel shared rather than solitary.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the bulletin board is set to become even more integral as we transition from collaborative drafts to final written masterpieces. The students are already eager for the next phase, where their individual essays, creative narratives, and analytical critiques will take center stage. Knowing that their written work will be showcased to the entire class has added a new layer of motivation to their drafting process; they aren't just writing for a grade anymore, but for an audience of their peers. This evolution from white bricks to a rotating gallery of excellence has turned our classroom into a space that truly celebrates the voice and hard work of every student.","fullyFundedDate":1758508845527,"projectUrl":"project/the-board-that-made-the-difference/9711651/","projectTitle":"The Board that Made the Difference!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Zamor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7373018"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_21993","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1866,"numTeachers":106,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":21,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":77,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":59.2,"schoolId":21993,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hempstead High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hempstead High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/hempstead-union-free-sd/hempstead-high-school/21993"}
