The snacks have been a big hit. We have to use our own money for snacks, so this has really helped. Kids feel comfortable coming back after they have received snacks in the past, so having students come by just to say hi is great. Especially being in a HS sometimes kids are too cool to just stop by, so this has really helped. I was also able to provide snacks for when some students had extended time for tests they were taking. Having the snacks is something that I will definitely continue with in the future.\r\n\r\nThe fidget toys have also been a huge hit! Every time a student sits down, they literally pick up a toy and start fidgeting with it. You can tell it instantly calms them down. My administration uses them as well and sometimes I do too! \r\n\r\nThe pictures have made a boring wall look nice again.Considering I have a purple wall, it is not always easy to find pictures that match it and the ones I was able to purchase are perfect.\r\n\r\nThe last two items that have been the biggest hits have been my sloth rug and weighted stuffed animal. So many of my students have used the weighted animal. They use it when they have come in so distraught they don't know what to do. They just sit and will hold it. It really is the best addition to my office. \r\n\r\nAll of these items have made my office more inviting and without your support I would not have been able to have them. They make my office cozy, comfortable, but still professional. I really appreciate being approved for my project. Thank you for all you have done for me, my students, my faculty and other educators as well.","fullyFundedDate":1727888496201,"projectUrl":"project/just-like-home/8830464/","projectTitle":"Just Like Home.","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kavanagh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9780556"},{"teacherId":9808058,"projectId":8888932,"letterContent":"I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of self-care items for our hard-of-hearing students. The snacks have provided a small but important source of comfort for students, and the improvements to my office have created a space where students feel safe and at ease. However, the biggest hit by far has been the weighted stuffed animal. It has been an absolute game-changer.\r\n\r\nSince introducing the stuffed animal into my office, my students have used it extensively, and I've seen firsthand how much it helps them feel more grounded and relaxed. The soothing weight provides comfort in moments of stress or anxiety, and it's quickly become a beloved part of their visits. It's not just the students who have been impacted—I've shared the idea with some of my colleagues, and a few have even gone out to get one for their own offices.\r\n\r\nI can't thank you enough for your generosity. Your contribution has not only provided physical resources but also emotional support that has made a significant difference in the lives of my students. I look forward to continuing to support them with these new tools and will be sure to keep you updated on the positive changes we continue to see.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for your kindness and support.","fullyFundedDate":1728389694145,"projectUrl":"project/supporting-the-mental-health-of-high-sch/8830439/","projectTitle":"Supporting the Mental Health of High School Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kensy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9780547"},{"teacherId":9776492,"projectId":8817801,"letterContent":"The new seating options in my Family Support Center has done so much to improve the counseling experience for students and their families. Firstly, the seating itself is so much more comfortable. When people feel comfortable physically, more relaxed and therefore, better able to ease into potentially sensitive conversations. Secondly, the new seating has allowed me to change the layout in the office. I no longer need to have my back facing the door, which increases my safety. The new seating arrangement also allows for a sense of privacy for individual and small group conversations which foster trust and open communication. Thirdly, The new seating has completely changed the atmosphere of the space. The colors, textures and more modern style create a more inviting and less clinical feel. This also encourages engagement and reduces anxiety. \r\n\r\nWhen students, families, and coworkers saw the new seating, they couldn't believe how much it positively impacted the overall feel of the space. The office went from feeling like a closet to feeling like a true office space that is professional and caring, where conversation can occur comfortably. I have noticed that individuals spend more time in the office than they had previously. \r\n\r\nMy plan for the future with the space is to continue to add decor to make it feel even more inviting. I plan to add a small rug to the conversation area, some large pillows for students who prefer to sit on the floor, and some decor on the walls. I also plan to paint the space a very calming light blue color this summer, while it is not in use.","fullyFundedDate":1727311486760,"projectUrl":"project/mental-health-services-at-school/8817801/","projectTitle":"Mental Health Services at School","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hutchings","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9776492"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_21894","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":855,"numTeachers":73,"percentFrplEligible":29,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":85,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":87.0,"schoolId":21894,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Grand Island Senior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Grand Island Senior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/grand-island-central-school-district/grand-island-high-school/21894"}
