I am the kind of book person who highlights, sticky-notes, and writes in the margins! I read these professional development books at home, often with a cup of coffee nearby and a notebook open so I can capture ideas that I can immediately bring back to my classroom. Rather than simply reading for my own professional growth, I am constantly asking myself, \"How could this look in my math classroom?\" and \"What could I change tomorrow that would make this experience better for a student?\"\r\n\r\nThese books are helping me rethink how I design instruction and assessments and how I respond to student behaviors, provide choices, and recognize the many different ways students learn and communicate. I am especially excited to use what I learn to better support my neurodivergent students. I am not asking them to change who they are, but trying to create a classroom environment that affirms their strengths and provides the supports they need to be successful. One of the most meaningful impacts of this project is that the learning will extend beyond my own classroom. I plan to share these resources with my grade-level team and math department so that we can continue building more equitable and affirming learning experiences for our students across classrooms. Or students who don't love math can use these texts to explore new ways math is used in life.
