Our hydroponics station and aquaponics tank, home to our beloved library fish, Bubbles, have brought so much excitement and curiosity into our learning space. We have already grown microgreens and wheatgrass in our aquaponics tank and are currently growing lettuce, spinach, and other leafy greens in our hydroponics station! For our neurodivergent learners, many of whom are emerging readers and communicators, these hands-on experiences make learning more accessible and meaningful. Our students have opportunities to observe plant growth, explore how living things grow, build vocabulary, and make real-world connections to the books and stories we read together.\r\n\r\nAs we continue developing our indoor garden, our next steps are to deepen students' understanding of plant life cycles, sustainability, and caring for our environment through literacy and STEM inquiry activities. Students will continue observing changes in our plants, exploring what plants need to grow, and developing responsibility as they help care for our growing garden. This project has helped us expand what learning looks like in our library, creating a living classroom where students can read, explore, discover, and grow.
