The resources are helping us create a more purposeful space where students can take a break, regulate their bodies, and return to learning feeling more ready and successful.\r\n\r\nWe have already been using the materials throughout the school day during scheduled sensory breaks and during moments when students need extra support. One of the most meaningful things to see has been students beginning to recognize when they need a break and using the space and tools to help themselves calm. In a classroom where communication, transitions, and emotional regulation can sometimes be challenging, having safe and appropriate ways to meet those needs makes a tremendous difference.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were immediately curious and excited to explore them. We have been practicing how to use each resource safely and appropriately so that our regulation area remains a calm, supportive space rather than simply another play area.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue teaching students how to identify what their bodies need and which strategies work best for them. We are working toward greater independence with requesting breaks, choosing an appropriate calming strategy, and then transitioning back to classroom activities. These resources are helping us build skills that go far beyond one lesson, they support our students in learning how to regulate, communicate, and participate more successfully throughout their school day.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for helping make this possible for our classroom. The students have enjoyed using the wide variety of materials, which we have incorporated for arts and crafts as well as hands-on academics. \r\nThe kids made a number of holiday crafts with the paints, poms and other materials and they were very excited to have gifts to share with their families. The families really enjoyed receiving the home-made gifts! \r\nThe playdough and the chalk with chalkboards have been the students' favorites of all the materials! Since chalkboards aren't common in schools anymore, experimenting with them has been highly engaging for the kids. They like making marks with chalk, erasing them, writing with wet sponges and using wet chalk to make the colors brighter. We have been using the playdough to make shapes, numbers and letters so they are building fine motor and cognitive skills.
