We used the books during our daily reading activities, giving students opportunities to choose stories, practice listening and comprehension skills, and simply enjoy reading. The snacks were also a huge help during our summer program and gave students something to look forward to during the day. The fans helped keep our classroom comfortable during the warmer summer days, which made a big difference in helping our students stay comfortable and focused. One of my favorite moments was watching the students get excited when they realized that the materials were specifically for our classroom. They loved exploring the new books and seeing all of the fun supplies we could use for our activities.\r\n\r\nThe craft supplies were especially fun because we were able to incorporate them into hands-on learning projects. Our students created crafts connected to the themes and lessons we were learning, which allowed them to practice fine-motor skills, creativity, following directions, and expressing themselves. For some of our students, hands-on activities are much more engaging than traditional worksheets, so having a variety of materials gave us more ways to meet their individual needs. Seeing their smiles and pride when they finished a project was such a special part of our summer.\r\n\r\nAs we continue into the school year, we are building on these experiences by continuing to use the books, craft materials, and other classroom resources during reading, small-group instruction, and hands-on activities. Our next steps are to keep encouraging students to become more independent learners while strengthening their academic, communication, social, and fine-motor skills. They are currently in the research phase, and the kiddos are very excited about learning the different areas of the state they live in. My students walk into a warm and welcoming classroom each day, knowing our room is set up for them to do their best learning! The students were so excited to see their reading corner! The neon sign has been a hit and they love how it lights up the room when my lights are off! They have been utilizing the wobble seats and pillows as flexible seating for independent reading and have really enjoyed them!\r\n\r\nIt was adorable to watch their faces as they entered into my room on the first day of school! When we did our classroom tour, they were interacting and curious about the toy bins, the new games that were age appropriate, and the books that were showcased with the stands. \r\n\r\nThe next step, is to deep dive into writing and reading. Our main focus this year is setting our students up for success in all literacy and writing areas. Currently, we are working on Personal Narrative writing and they have really enjoyed the writing process. We also are working on math fact skills and science investigations! The students love diving into a science lesson, knowing that they themselves will be able to become the scientists and test their hypothesis! \r\n\r\nI am so thankful, as are all of my students with the beautiful resources that have been donated to our classroom! Children thrive when lessons are interactive and relevant. Excitement was definitely in the air! The children were so interested in the technology of our new photo printer. When they realized I could print pictures of them for our project quickly from my phone, there was literal jumping up and down. In the past, I'd send pictures to from my phone to local big box stores, and run out to get them after my family completed whatever activities we have scheduled. I was so grateful that I could take pictures of my students and have them ready within minutes to do our next project. The class thoroughly enjoyed making St. Patrick's Day keepsake projects that are currently decorating our hallway. When we take them down, they children are excited that they can \"keep them forever,\" or \"give it as a gift to my family(ies).\" Several kiddos have expressed that they want a photo printer like this at home so they can use it whenever they want. One student in particular pulled on my heart strings when he ran up to me to ask if we could use the photo printer again sometime, because he doesn't have any pictures of himself at home. Needless to say, I made sure that was no longer true. Some students have it all, some have most needs met, and some have so little. I feel lucky when I have donors that give me the opportunity to enhance these littles' lives whenever I can.
