The ukulele opens up so many opportunities for learning in the music room. It gives the students a popular instrument that they are familiar with, and gets them excited to learn how to play themselves. The ukulele is also very accessible for students, and has room for growth from a beginner to a more advanced player. The use of the ukulele will allow my students to learn about rhythm, harmony, chords, and will grow their singing voices all at the same time! There are so many benefits in adding the ukulele to the music classroom, and I know my students would love it. I often times accompany my classes with my ukulele, and every time I do, the students ask to learn how to play. Generally, 4th-6th graders become reserved singers in music class. Adding in an instrument for them to play and accompany themselves with, will make singing more appealing and fun! The possibilities are endless with adding ukulele into the music room, and I know that it would add to my students learning tremendously.
