Each tank is now home to one of our new betta fish pets, giving students the opportunity to observe a living ecosystem right in our classroom. We are using the tanks to make connections to science concepts such as ecosystems, the needs of living things, plant growth, water quality, and the relationship between plants and animals. Students are especially excited to take responsibility for observing and caring for our fish while watching to see how our aquaponics systems develop over time.\r\nThe students were incredibly excited when they first saw the aquaponics tanks—and that excitement grew even more when our new betta fish arrived! They immediately wanted to know how the tanks worked, what the fish needed to stay healthy, and how plants could grow as part of the system. Having something living in our classroom has sparked so much natural curiosity. The tanks have already become something students want to check on each morning when they enter the room.\r\nOur next step is to turn our excitement into an ongoing science investigation. Students will learn more about how an aquaponics system functions and explore the important roles of the fish, water, plants, and microorganisms within the system. As our tanks develop, students will make observations, look for changes, ask questions, and record what they notice over time. We hope to use our betta fish and aquaponics tanks throughout the year as a living laboratory where students can connect what they learn in science to something they can actually see happening in front of them.","fullyFundedDate":1782484885785,"projectUrl":"project/aquaponics-adventure-growing-a-living/10321114/","projectTitle":"Aquaponics Adventure: Growing a Living Ecosystem","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. OBrien","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4946384_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1516250946650","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/obrienweidenbach"},{"teacherId":10383949,"projectId":9958389,"letterContent":"We are so grateful for you generous donations.
