With these updated books, students are practicing skills such as making text-to-self connections, expanding vocabulary, and strengthening comprehension while exploring stories that truly interest them. In the library, reading has become more joyful—students come in excited to browse, talk with friends about their favorite books, and proudly check out titles they can't wait to dive into.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who once avoided the library are now some of its most frequent visitors. For example, one student who had rarely borrowed books before now comes in weekly to pick up the newest graphic novels and often asks when the next ones will arrive. My students kept telling me how it was the best camp ever, that they loved all of the STEM activities, that the breakfast was so much better than the school breakfast and that the lunch was some of the best food they've ever had! \r\n\r\nStudents came each day and ate breakfast, completed activities such as learning about solar ovens, creating solar ovens and cooking s'mores and cookies. They had to monitor and record results every 30 minutes and then graph their results at the end of the project. They were able to take their solar ovens home with a booklet of information and recipes. Some students experienced s'mores for the very first time and they all thought they were delicious!\r\n\r\nAnother activity that they loved was learning about owls, how owl pellets are formed and then were able to dissect a pellet. They matched the bones on their reference sheet and most found skulls too which they thought was super cool! Then they used the 3Doodler pens to create an owl to take home, along with an owl stuffed animal and the bones that they found. \r\n\r\nStudents also learned how to create art through marble painting, created multiple types of paper airplanes and hoop gliders which they also tested and created graphs with the data. They painted flower pots, planted spider plants, made dirt pudding for a snack and also learned about series and parallel circuits. \r\n\r\nThey and their parents always said how much they appreciate that they cooked their lunch; they measured ingredients, learned how to cook pancakes, grilled cheese, tacos, made salads, spaghetti and mac and cheese. We ended the week with a pizza and chicken party from Dominoes. My students learned so much every single day, it was a truly unforgettable week!\r\n\r\nAll of these opportunities wouldn't have been possible without you and we are all so very thankful and grateful to you. Thanks to your donation of healthy snacks and bags, we were able to provide community members with healthy food, health essentials and various items that they may need.\r\n\r\nOur students had an incredible experience teaming up with the local AF1 Albany Firebirds players. Together, they learned valuable lessons about working out, eating healthy, staying positive, treating others with respect and persevering through challenges. The players spoke with all of our students during an assembly, answered questions that the students had, made a plan to eat healthier, exercise more and how to overcome challenges in and out of school. They gave high fives and signed autographs which was another huge highlight of their day! \r\n\r\nStudents then planned out their own health and fitness goals, kept track of their progress and wrote down daily food, water and exercise goals and accomplishments in an online journal. Players came back a second time to workout with a smaller group of students and have a more in depth conversation about exercising and staying healthy mentally and physically. Students practiced several different agility drills with the agility ladder, practiced running sprints, high knee warmups, ran agility cone drills, balance drills and practiced throwing the football with the players.\r\n\r\nYour generous donation and commitment to our school and students made this all possible. We deeply appreciate your commitment to promoting wellness in our school and community and our students couldn't be happier. The connection that our students made with the players was an amazing and extremely memorable one that wouldn't have happened without your generous support. Our students not only heard from community members that play for our city but were also able to pack bags of food, snacks, drinks and health essentials for other community members. Students are learning through discovery, hands on learning and collaboration. We love the \"Pop to Win\" game, where students learn about all areas of their grade level math while having fun. Before our holiday break, students enjoyed hot chocolate, candy canes and peppermint cookies while playing would you rather and other fun games.\r\n\r\nStudents have been exploring the safari animal games, science activities and are enjoying the hands-on learning opportunities. You have brought happiness and provided the resources needed to our after school program, giving students the opportunity to collaborate with other classmates. They absolutely love the magnetic tiles and designing animal characters. We held a few engineering design challenges where they are using tape, straws, toothpicks, pipe cleaners, index cards and other materials to create a build. Then they test to see if their structures can withstand the weight of a can of vegetables, a small cup of water and a container of play dough.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is truly appreciated and I cannot thank you enough for believing in my vision to inspire our students through STEM.
